If you are new to the world ‘text recruiting’, it’s pretty easy to get started. After all, typing 160 characters should be a breeze. Before you get started, make sure you have a plan in place. You’re going to need to think through two major issues:
Instead of focusing on finding an answer to the second question, instead look for a solution to the first answer that will solve both problems. When texting candidates, you have three options:
Use Your Phone
It’s the obvious and simplest solution. You already have a phone. It’s with you all the time, and chances are you are always checking it (approximately every 6 minutes like the rest of us). Why would you ever consider using anything else? Well, there’s one glaring problem. How do you keep track of your messages with candidates in your ATS / CRM?
If you don’t manually enter the data, you have two separate sets of information that exist in two different tools, reducing your visibility and ability to measure your outreach efforts. If you do decide to log your conversations, now you have to spend your time manually entering data into your system.
Use a Third-Party App
These are popping up everywhere, and they easily solve the glaring issue associated with using your phone. A lot of the most notable third-party apps can easily integrate into your ATS and automatically update your contact records with all of your recent communications. It may seem like an obvious choice, but before you pull the trigger just yet know there is a third, even better option.
Use Your Existing ATS / CRM
That’s right! If you didn’t know it already, your ATS may already include a SMS/text messaging feature. Not only is there no manual data entry, there is no additional time and cost investment associated with integrating a third-party app into your ATS. Best of all you can contact candidates and automatically record the conversation all from one screen.
At Loxo, text messaging is included in our premium plans. Recruiters can send texts to candidates right from their contact record in Loxo. All messages are immediately recorded in the candidate’s activity stream, and all replies are sent directly to your email.
This is an exciting time. You know that text messaging can help simplify your recruiting process and improve candidate engagement. You know the Do’s and Don’ts of of ‘text recruiting,’ and you have already mapped out ways to incorporate text messaging into your recruiting strategy.
There’s honestly not much left to do except to start texting candidates. As you start to dive in or refine your current approach to texting, be sure to measure your performance and adjust your plans accordingly.
Take note of which times tend to have higher response rates and which messages perform better than others. Be sure to tweak your messages accordingly until you nailed down a strategy that works for you.
That’s it! You’re ready. Good luck and happy texting!
