Here’s the deal: Recruiters need to personalize their outreach to hiring managers if they want to get noticed. The “how” is a bit more complicated though – which is why we’ve brought our Tactical Tuesday queen Vivien back to walk through understanding the specific skills and experience hiring managers are looking for.

Researching job postings and using gut instincts can help identify the key requirements — from there, it’s important to tailor your outreach and highlight how you can solve the hiring manager’s problem. Building relationships and networking with hiring managers can also be effective, a well as doing research like checking recent press releases and news articles to see if they provide insights into a company’s needs.

Moral of the story? Being unconventional and giving hiring managers a compelling reason to respond is key.
