Large international logistics company is seeking their next Controller. Responsible for a variety of accounting and finance activities, including consolidation of five divisional business units and analysis of financial results. Manage month and quarter-end closing and reporting activities, including analysis of expense fluctuations and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts. Responsible for compiling data required for annual financial audit. Strengthen the accounting and controlling function to ensure a highly efficient, effective and scalable infrastructure to support the Company’s continuous growth. Partner with the division and corporate accounting team to successfully manage the growth and profitability of the business. Develop strategies to ensure strong controls, sound implementation of priorities and greater discipline while at the same time, supporting an effective culture rooted in accountability.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver monthly and periodic financial analysis and insights, including ad hoc and program specific financial analysis. Working closely with the business units within the division, manage the annual budgeting process and forecast updates.
  • Ensure timely and accurate closing and preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual divisional financial statements, including analysis of balance sheet and related key accounts. Ensure all balance sheet reconciliations are completed and provided to corporate accounting quarterly.
  • Responsible for consolidations and reporting for a division with multiple locations.
  • Assist corporate treasury with cash management of the division, including review of bank reconciliations, customer collections, and weekly cash forecasting.
  • Responsible for oversight of the accounts receivable function, focusing on improvement in billing and timely collections
  • Responsible for oversight of the accounts payable function to ensure that vendors are paid accurately and on time
  • Coordinate external financial reviews and work with external auditors on the annual audit and review process, ensuring necessary data is compiled and footnotes prepared in a timely manner.
  • Oversee management of data requests for tax preparation.
  • Continually review and enhance general accounting processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with corporate accounting guidelines .
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining internal controls.
  • Lead financial reporting efforts for divisional quarterly reviews
  • Work with Information Technology Department to ensure that automated processes and reports are functioning properly and develop new reports to improve efficiencies.

·      Work closely with other team members to better connect sales forecasting with financial forecasts by leveraging commercial data, historical trends and industry comparable data to provide well-reasoned business forecasts

·      Remain up to date on developments that may impact operations or reporting requirements

·      Assist with streamlining and elevating monthly closing processes through enhanced use of financial systems and automation

·      Look for ways to improve the profitability, scalability, efficiency and effectiveness of the organization and coordinate with the Divisional President and Corporate CFO in gaining approval and, as appropriate, implementing such recommendations

·      Maintain and exude a can-do attitude along with a willingness to help in any way they can; support the team culture and promote constant improvement


Key Selection Criteria:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA required
  • Minimum 10-15 years of progressive accounting experience
  • A mixture of public accounting (top 10) and private accounting experience is ideal
  • Strong general ledger skills and solid knowledge of US GAAP
  • Strong business and financial acumen required, including demonstrated ability to solve complex business problems and analyze financial statements, reports and data
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with multiple stakeholders
  • Proven leadership, organizational, communication, and analytical skills
  • Possess the leadership / change management skills to be able to bring others along on the journey, can tell the story to convince others of the necessity for doing things
  • Experience with Netsuite Mandatory
  • Experience in transportation and logistics industry is a plus
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including advanced knowledge of Excel and Power Point
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of time,
