Operations Manager

Summary

 

The Operations Manager oversees the daily operations and ensures that processing, maintenance, inventory, and quality processes are running smoothly and according to Health Canada regulations and internal procedures. The Operations Manager will work in conjunction with the processing team and report directly to the CEO to effectively and efficiently manage the development and direction of the processing team.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee all daily functions of the site, and ensure that both short term and long-term goals and objectives are met
  • Facilitate daily morning meeting with leadership team
  • Ensure effective and regular communication between departments in order to ensure that smooth operations
  • Enforce compliance with SOPs, HACCP, GPP, GMP and Health Canada Guidelines.
  • Help draft and update procedures relating to regulatory, training, and quality compliance for processing to ensure repeatable performance and high-quality end products
  • Overseas production scheduling activities
  • Overseas shift scheduling, including shift rotations, training, vacations, breaks, overtime assignment, and back-up for absent team members
  • Track employee work performance and attendance, monitoring adherence to production plan, start-times, dismissal times, and additional daily activities
  • Investigate and mediate any workplace related employee dispute and provide direction/resolution based on employment standards and labor laws
  • Ensure all team members are trained sufficiently in operating machines and/or tasks
  • Demonstrate positive leadership, professionalism, and strong business relationships with the team
  • Maintain accountability and inventory of all raw materials, finished products, and by-products, participating in internal audits as directed
  • Conduct reviews of non-conforming finished products, ensures quality control is maintained, and corrective actions are developed
  • Lead daily/weekly operational reviews, ensuring alignment between quality goals and performance standards
  • Develop and implement process improvement strategies
  • Examine inventory, sales, and daily reports in order to determine the operational activities of the company and maximize performance
  • Strategically manage departments in compliance with the company’s policies and vision
  • Work closely with Quality team to ensure all Health Canada cannabis regulations are met and reporting obligations are fulfilled
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

 

  • Diploma or degree in agriculture or business
  • 10+ years of operational management experience in a specialized environment with proven leadership abilities.
  • Cannabis/CPG or highly regulated industry experience considered an asset
  • Security Clearance through Health Canada for Cannabis considered an asset
  • Familiarity with GMP and the Cannabis Act
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and Six Sigma concepts an asset.
  • Experience running packaging lines and equipment is a strong asset
  • Strong people management skills, including mentoring, coaching, performance, motivating and directing staff.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and maintain positive relationships with all levels of management
  • Ability to work long hours, weekends or tend to operation after hour emergencies
  • Ability to stand long hours and work with cannabis and its byproducts
