Job Summary:

With the help of an assistant, the lead visually inspects utility poles, their attachments, and the area surrounding the pole for damage, deterioration, or other concerns. The lead determines the best method for repairing ground-level concerns and makes note of overhead issues for the client.  The lead is able to identify National Electric Safety Code (NESC), client, and TXDOT violations.  Performs analysis of wood utility poles and uploads the results to the client. 


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reliable and consistent attendance 
  • Identify pole attachments 
  • Be polite and courteous when communicating with clients, customers, and/or property owners 
  • Traverse terrain that can be at times difficult to access and/or in remote areas 
  • General knowledge of electrical utility practices and the NESC 
  • Ability to interpret and understand field sheet notes, schematics, maps, and drawings 
  • Produce accurate reports in a neat, legible manner 
  • Use common garden tools  
  • Follow general safety guidelines and wear appropriate PPE
  • Familiarity working with mixing and pouring concrete 
  • Load, unload, transport, and care for equipment used to complete the job  
  • Responsible for ensuring all equipment is loaded and unloaded at the end of each workday 
  • Securing all equipment if away from the vehicle for any period of time 
  • Able to use various measuring equipment and understand units of measure  
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Read, write and communicate well with others 
  • Able to complete assigned responsibilities with little to no supervisor 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products 
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license
  • Responsible for the safety of the crew

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • 1 year previous experience in Pole Inspection

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the Firm; must also be able to work at a desk for long periods of time (2-3 hours); strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Ability to travel if required, including overnight travel and the ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment in designated areas.
