About us:

The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) is the staff association for police constables, sergeants, inspectors (including chief inspectors), and special constables. Representing the views of over 140,000 rank and file police officers, PFEW is the official body that exists to support and advocate for police officers on various matters, including pay, allowances, terms and conditions. PFEW also provides training on equality, promotion, discipline, and health and safety, while advising and lobbying on operational policing issues and influencing legislation. This role relates to one of the most significant Member Services provided by PFEW, namely the availability of legal support.

About the role:

As the Head of Member Legal Services, you will assume leadership of the Member Legal Services department, directing its efforts in claims processing and legal support. Your primary mandate involves crafting and executing strategic plans in alignment with PFEW's overarching objectives, ensuring the delivery of exceptional services to our members. You will be tasked with leading and developing the team, managing the claims process from end to end, overseeing budgetary matters, nurturing stakeholder relationships, ensuring compliance with governance standards, driving policy development, spearheading system enhancements, and offering high-level legal counsel.

Key responsibilities:

We are seeking a seasoned professional to join the PFEW team as the Claims and Legal Services Manager. With extensive experience in the claims environment, particularly in areas relevant to PFEW's operations, you'll be tasked with driving efficiency through processes, both within systems and people processes. Your ability to translate legal advice into practical changes in policy and process will be crucial in this role.

As a leader, you'll be responsible for managing large budgets and operational teams or departments, showcasing your prowess in strategic planning and implementation within an operational claims context. Additionally, experience or knowledge of managing legal teams would be advantageous.

The Candidate:

Your key skills will be put to the test as you demonstrate strategic leadership by developing and executing claims strategies that align with customer/membership satisfaction. Drawing on your expertise in claims processing best practices, you'll work to enhance customer satisfaction while effectively communicating complex claims and legal issues to diverse audiences.

Stakeholder engagement will be at the forefront of your responsibilities, as you negotiate and manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Upholding the highest levels of professional ethics and sound judgement in all legal matters will be essential to maintaining integrity in our operations.

In a dynamic environment where priorities can shift rapidly, your adaptive management skills will be invaluable. Your comprehensive understanding of legal principles, particularly in areas impacting law enforcement, personal injury, and public sector employment, will inform your decision-making and contribute to the overall success of PFEW's member claims and legal services strategy.

Join us in our mission to ensure claims and legal excellence and integrity in support of the Federation's mission and its members. If you're ready to make a meaningful impact and be part of a dedicated team, apply now to take the next step in your career with PFEW.

This is an outstanding opportunity to play a meaningful role within this unique organisation. If you feel you have the requisite skills and expertise to meet the brief, our Executive Search Partners at Green Park would welcome a conversation with you.
