A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

As a construction manager, you play a vital role in the development of affordable housing statewide. Your day is full of a variety of tasks that require exceptional time-management skills and a desire to limit construction and financial risk. In the beginning stages of a project, you assess potential affordable housing sites and work with design professionals to determine the most cost-effective building methods in the most suitable locations. You will also work with municipal officials to assure the plans and specs conform to local building ordinances and land covenants. You manage the bidding process and oversee pre-construction meetings and course-of-construction inspections.

Your follow-through is essential as each project progresses to completion. You oversee multiple state-wide housing projects at once working directly with general contractors and design professionals. You are the driving force behind administering the construction contracts, managing changes orders timely, and producing desired results as you ensure that we are meeting quality standards and using proper techniques according to building codes. You effectively manage each project to assure the project stays on budget and on schedule. In this construction management position, you take great pride in seeing a vision realized, knowing that you are providing a home to lower income households, and you enjoy coming to work every day!

  • 8+ years of experience in construction management or as a general contractor, preferably in affordable housing development
  • Understanding of real estate financing and development
