Machine Shop/Manufacturing Manager

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Valid Drivers License and acceptable driving record. 
  • Self-motivated, result oriented, responsible, and disciplined. 
  • 5+ Years’ experience managing the operations of a successful machine shop.
  • Proven ability to profitably quote projects, project and manage costs, and perform post-mortems after completion. 
  • Proven project management skills that result in projects that hit deadlines. 
  • The business acumen to be able to read a profit and loss statement and make business decisions based on the numbers. 
  • Machining experience. 
  • Proven experience developing documented processes and procedures that produce repeatable results with more efficient results. 
  • Proven experience scheduling employees to maximize their efficiencies and strengths. 
  • Ability to optimize operations and increase efficiencies.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
  • MS Office and good writing skills. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education. 
  • Extensive machining experience including programing, CNC machine operation, advance tool use skills. 
  • 5+ years of management experience.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems that integrate with CNC machines. 
  • Above average MS Excel skills.
  • Six Sigma Training. 
  • Ability to use Mastercam to program projects. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage the manufacturing department.
  • Ensure financial success of the department.
  • Management of all personnel within the manufacturing department. 
  • Develop and implement a career ladder within the department.
  • Manage all work in the department ensuring its profitability.
  • Ensure there are no injuries in the department by ensuring implementation of all company safety policies and practices. Recommend changes where appropriate. 
  • Develop and implement project management processes and procedures that ensure all projects are completed on time and within budget parameters. 
  • Ensure maintenance of all manufacturing equipment.
  • Train, develop, and assist employees in their roles within the department. 
  • Assign employees to schedules that ensure completion of projects on schedule. 
  • Ensure quality standards are met within parameters required by customers and certifications. 
  • Work with the quality department and its manager to improve quality outcomes. 
  • Document and maintain records of quality non-conformances within the quality system.  
  • Development of processes, procedures, and data driven metrics that ensure the continual improvement of the productivity and efficiency of the department. 
  • Perform monthly “one-on-ones” with employees providing them with feedback and opportunities to grow personally and professionally. 
  • Provide quotes and time estimates to internal and external customers. 
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with sales that drives revenue. 
  • Create and implement an annual budget that facilitates departmental success. 
  • Create headcount projections and metrics that define when additional human resources are required. 
  • Create methods of testing the skills and technical abilities of candidates for hire. 
  • Make recommendations for equipment purchases and mix when requested. 
  • Supply information to respond to RFP’s and proposals as needed. 
  • Authorize purchasing requests of necessities to run the department. 
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
