Reports to the Vice President of Sentara healthcare supply chain. Responsible for the following:

  1. Leadership: Leads by example, manages, transforms and develops the (department-based) sourcing function and all sourcing relationships at Sentara healthcare. Leadership of the sourcing team should at all times be aligned with the vision for the future of Supply Chain, namely, sourcing the best quality products at the best price, treating customers with service orientation and focusing on supply chain excellence internally. This role requires a proven, transformative and dynamic leader with a strong track record of leading and transforming GPO arrangements across a health system. Works as an effective system leader by contributing to system efforts relating to all product sourcing.
  1. Optimization of GPO relationships to achieve maximum savings: Develops and executes the sourcing strategy, while optimizing existing GPO relationships. Negotiates local contracts and designs and executes against innovative sourcing agreements to achieve savings and to build and maintain a competitive contract portfolio.
  1. Service Optimization and Value Analysis : Creates competitive advantage by optimizing spend in products, materials and services as well as developing strategies, processes and leading practice in collaboration with the Supply Chain Value Analysis function. Sets targets and provides direction to Value Analysis team structure in order to achieve system financial, quality and safety goals.
  1. Capital Expenditure Coordination: Creating value in the capital expenditure spend for the system with alignment of the 3 year system plan.
  1. Physician Preference Items: Improving both product and utilization of physician preference items, purchase services and drugs and legal and ethical sourcing.
  1. Strategic Partnership development: Optimizing the client base through sourcing, control and management of key suppliers while building sustainable, strategic partnerships to maximize contract value.
  1. Financial Practice and Auditing: The position will be responsible for embedding effective financial management practices and audit controls. In addition, the position will be responsible for building, managing and developing a high performing team in the sourcing function as well as establishing a culture of efficiency and effectiveness.
  1. Regulatory Compliance and Excellence: Builds in system processes to ensure that regulatory and compliance standards are met. Consistently exceeds expectations regarding audits and regulatory evaluations.
Education Level
Master’s degree in business, supply chain or a health care-related field preferred. At least 10 years of experience in progressively more sophisticated strategic sourcing, procurement and/or contracting leadership roles. Experience in a health care setting is preferred but not required
Experience
Deep understanding of Supply Chain functions, including, ERP Implementation, GPO and local contract sourcing, and related procedures pertaining to materials management and purchasing.

Extensive knowledge of healthcare product categories, proposals processes, asset inventory procedures, negotiations, bid procedures, audit procedures, leasing and capital purchase procedures is also required. Knowledge of financial management, ERP supply chain applications and supply chain experience in a health care setting is preferred but not required.

Exceptional relationship building, interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated capability in financial management and setting up audit controls for GPO sourcing. Ability to achieve strategic goals within budget

External benchmarking resources such as ECRI, Wisdom, IMS, MD Buyline, Healthstream, Service Center & ERP Supply Chain Applications

Skills
Ability to provide leadership, strategic direction, oversight and management for a large and complex Supply Chain sourcing function, working at system level

Dynamic, adaptable and quick learner with strong communication, negotiation and listening skills

Ability to take a departmental Supply Chain strategy and translate this into a GPO and local contract strategy

Demonstrated ability in building high performing teams and in coaching and developing staff

Strong influencing, collaboration and stakeholder and vendor management skills

Experience in adopting leading practices and designing and implementing innovative sourcing solutions

Strong market analysis skills and experience in product review and standardization

Deep analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills

Ability to work in and lead cross-functional teams

Familiar with systems management.

• Must be able to analyze and interpret data to craft actionable recommendations

• Must be able to interpret contract language

• Oversees and maintains personnel files, budgetary reports and required regulatory documentation

• Ability to collaborate with IT staff, in addition to external sources of data (i.e, regional alliances, other GPO’s, GHX Contract Center & Exchange, MedPricer, etc.) regarding queries designated to resolve product pricing, UOM, contract compliance, etc.
