About This Role


Wells Fargo is seeking a Counsel in Legal as part of the Enterprise Functions Division of the Wells Fargo Legal Department. Learn more about the career areas and lines of business at wellsfargojobs.com .


This Senior Counsel position is in the Privacy, Information Security, and Data Section and will focus on Privacy. The successful candidate will work closely with Privacy Compliance and Operations and other stakeholders. This attorney will provide dedicated full-time service and support to Wells Fargo, controls, and infrastructure, including strategy, planning and analytics, and independent risk management. This role will include frequent interface and collaboration with Legal counterparts in the same section, Technology, Third Party Contracts, Corporate Risk, Regulatory Relations, and Wells Fargo business groups.


The position will have legal responsibility and accountability for all facets of privacy, advising and counseling managers and leaders in all aspects of Wells Fargo. The attorney will have a proven record of success and accomplishments, and the ability to provide timely, decisive, and effective counsel.


In This Role You Will

  • Provide guidance to management on legal and regulatory matters impacting business strategy and policy or claims against the Company.
  • Proactively identify policy, legal, and regulatory matters pertaining to area of expertise, and evaluate the legal risk and impact.
  • Independently resolve moderately complex issues and lead team to meet deliverables
  • Exercise considerable discretion and may serve as the primary legal contact for assigned clients.
  • Collaborate within the department and across business and staff functions to address legal and risk issues in a manner consistent with the best interests of Wells Fargo.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide oversight for less experienced attorneys or staff
  • Lead initiatives of varying scope and complexity.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Active State Bar membership

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as a practicing attorney
  • Experience analyzing legal and regulatory issues in area of practice and provide effective counsel to clients on complex legal matters.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment with a high degree of collaboration.
  • Prior experience with privacy, especially financial privacy, solicitation, including telemarketing and email marketing, online/digital and mobile privacy, consumer privacy notice and disclosure requirements, as well as affiliate sharing
  • Strong understanding of consumer privacy policies including experience with reviewing, negotiating, drafting, and editing contractual privacy terms, and working with clients to interpret and apply such contractual provisions
  • Ability to present to clients, providing legal guidance and summaries, as well as drafting public comments and other communications to regulators.

Pay Range


$138,500.00 - $287,600.00 Annual
