Business Development Representative

We are seeking to add a Business Development Representative who can work independently and is a highly focused business development professional, who can also function in a team environment as an integral part of our Business Development group that develops business from the Company’s nationwide brokerage network. The right candidate will demonstrate sales acumen by growing originations in a newly segmented territory. This position does require overnight travel generally for two to four nights each month. We provide extensive on the job training preparing for your long-term success in the organization. The ideal candidate should have at least five years of territory sales experience, and/or experience in equipment finance. Responsibilities and Duties

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage existing broker relationships, exceeding assigned sales and customer retention targets.
  • Expand the Company’s business through the development of existing and new broker customer relationships, primarily through telephonic contact, in addition to email, personal visitation and contact at industry trade associations events.
  • Help develop, support and achieve origination forecasts by establishing highly effective relationships with broker customers. Eliminate all brokers not meeting established performance measures relating to application efficiency, funding results, portfolio quality and professional conduct expectations with the Company.
  • Consistently build, cultivate and nurture a database of current and prospective clients.
  • Support prospecting efforts for new brokers by working collaboratively with the industry trade associations and other industry contacts.
  • Work with the Business Development Manager to develop and execute a sales origination plan; including goals, marketing objectives, individual assignments, organization, and visitations and presentations on-site at individual brokers and industry trade association conferences.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of the Company’s broker guidelines, rates, and other correspondence.
  • Develop and recommend “special programs” with individual brokers including researching and working collaboratively with the Business Development and Credit Manager on program recommendations.
  • Maintain a history of all broker contact utilizing the company’s internal CRM in AppTrak.
  • Handle heavy inbound and outbound call regarding all aspects of business activities.
  • Achievement of regular, daily and proactive outbound prospecting goals to new and existing broker relationships which are intended to promote originations volumes with the Company.
  • Routinely make on-site broker visits which are usually out of state (generally once per month for two (2) – four (4) days); including training of their personnel and overall enhancement of the customer relationship.
  • Participate and represent the company at industry conferences in a professional, personal and positive manner.
  • Participate in providing input on the company website.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of all company promotional events and materials.
  • Report on metrics to measure the performance of sales activities in the assigned region as well as the effectiveness of marketing campaigns.
  • Handle customer complaints, resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.
  • Review operational information and reports to project sales.
  • Monitor customer preferences to determine the focus of sales efforts.
  • Follow-up to ensure that all appointment setting for new customers is handled effectively.
  • Assist with training and development of Business Development Coordinator
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Other Duties:
  • Attend Trade Shows approximately two (2) – four (4) times per year.

Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required (unless otherwise noted):

  • Bachelor’s degree required with five-plus (5+) years sales or leasing industry experience preferred.
  • Proven prior success as an inside sales professional.
  • Basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, Excel spreadsheet creation and management, Word, and basic internet and email.
  • Excellent analytical skills (i.e. sales call metrics, customer tracking spreadsheets, market segmentation, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Must be detail and process oriented.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Ability to work well under the pressure of meeting tight deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects while maintaining focus on details required for individual assignments.
  • Strong troubleshooting/problem resolution skills.
  • Strong interpersonal/internal customer service skills.
  • A positive attitude, patience, and persistence are highly desirable characteristics.
  • A confident self-starter, requiring minimal supervision.
  • Ability to persuade and influence others.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Visibility requires maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public.
  • Work requires travel to current and potential clients. This requires the possession of a valid state driver’s license within thirty (30) days of employment.
