The Position:

This Major Gifts Officer's responsibility is to secure major gift funds for the organization by managing a group of assigned, qualified donors (caseload) assuring that as many as possible are retained as continuing donors to the organization and are upgraded in their giving and involvement.



Responsibilities:

  • Utilize years of experience and networks to cultivate relationships with prospective major gift donors and planned giving donors (both in the current donors and in the development of new donors) to meet goals of diversifying our overall donor base.  This involves prospect research and developing an effective approach to solicitation as well as stewarding donors throughout the major giving process.  Also, responsible for identifying pockets of wealth in the Denver Metro area and beyond to create strong call lists.  
  • Ownership and full execution in the cultivation, solicitation, and securing of contributions from donors with a special focus on major gift giving to support Colorado UpLift’s growth, mission, and any related activities.  This execution must meet goals on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Utilizing information annually to create a plan in donor portfolios to develop and implement an annual donor solicitation for major gift prospects that also includes the operation of a donor stewardship program.
  • Work alongside Board Members, Executive Committee Members, and staff to assist in the execution of long-term fundraising initiatives of major gifts utilizing unique and diversified networking resources.  Continually assist in creating a broad awareness, appreciation, and excitement about the outcomes of UpLift’s programs and the link it to the mission and ownership/stewardship of their roles in securing certain levels of fundraising on an annual basis.
  • Tracking and assessing major gift fundraising metrics. Continue to assess and engage in conversations with the COO in determining what donation amounts qualify as a major gift to continue to align and engage with the strategic development plan for growth.
  • Calling and emailing major gift donors on a regular basis. Drafting major gift proposal documents using major giving fundraising and marketing tools. Review budgets-to-actual reports provided by COO and ensure major gift fundraising targets are met. 
  • Performs other duties, as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be willing to work within a very flexible schedule in order to attend evening and weekend events as well as engaging with potential donors outside of the normal workday.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Individual must have built a strong networking base and be very well connected in the Metro Denver area communities and be well-respected as a strong development and fundraising professional.  Must possess strong business knowledge and ability to think in a variety of business and non-profit environments. Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide variety of potential donors and supporters.
  • Must exercise exceptional time management skills and be able to meet fundraising deadlines. Public speaking skills are required for speeches at fundraising events, presentations to donors on recent achievements, and meetings with members of the board. Must be able to inspire trust and camaraderie in employees and potential donors alike.  Must demonstrate knowledge of development strategies, social media campaigning, and public relations. Exceptional writing and communication skills. Must be able to motivate a team to action and keep order amongst competing interests.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS  
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.  Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.  Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. 
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 
  • REASONING ABILITY  
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
