Responsibilities 

  • Performs technical work assignments that consist of several different and unrelated processes and procedures.
  • Analyzes the issues and project objectives and adjusts standard procedures or operations based on situations and conditions encountered in the field or during the study.
  • Recommends changes to practices and procedures for similar studies.  
  • Extracts data from a variety of sources and interprets the data with consideration of the source characteristics; recognizes and reports errors, inconsistencies, and other deficiencies in technical data; and performs quality assurance and data integrity review of electronic data and records.  
  • Drafts technical documentation for assigned technical engineering work assignments.
  • Selects the method for presenting data for internal use.
  • Keeps records, prepares reports, reviews findings, and makes recommendations and suggestions to engineers and supervisors. 
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of data systems.
  • Ensures necessary data and records are properly updated and maintained. 
  • Uses, adapts, or adjusts equipment for optimum operation.
  • Inspects, tests, and calibrates a variety of equipment.  
  • Interprets and reviews equipment results and recommends modification of future test procedures as appropriate to improve precision or operation. 
  • Installs portable traffic counter and speed measurement equipment. 
  • Collects, validates, and analyzes collected traffic speed and count data. 
  • Measures slopes and horizontal and vertical dimensions of completed construction work to confirm conformance with accessibility standards.
  • Reviews findings and makes suggestions for improvements to engineers and supervisor.  
  • Periodically assesses condition and operation of traffic counters, parking pay stations, electric vehicle charging stations and other equipment to confirm proper functionality.  
  • Prepares and/or modifies drawings using AutoCAD from layouts or sketches.
  • Drawings typically include roadway or trail cross – sections or layout, illustrating grades, dimensions, tolerances, and cross-references to industry technical standards.  
  • Interprets and reviews construction drawings and specifications for conformance to the Company’s standards and accessibility standards, established engineering standards, criteria, and project requirements. 
  • Reviews traffic control plans submitted by contractors for compliance with the Company’s guidelines and CA MUTCD. 
  • Computes and tabulates quantities of various construction materials.
  • Performs quality assurance checks on preliminary and final estimates of quantities prepared by others.  
  • Assists in preparing engineering cost estimates.  
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • High-school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent supplemented by one year of directly engineering related college level coursework.  
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in computer assisted drafting, construction, and/or engineering-related work.  
  • Familiarity with civil engineering/transportation engineering industry standards and guidelines, such as accessibility standards. 


Desired Qualifications 

  • Experience with AutoCAD and ArcGIS. 
  • Valid California Driver’s License  

 

The hiring range for this position is $ to $ per hour. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity, and may also vary depending on candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience amongst other factors.
