We are currently in search of an Controller for a School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children. The position is full-time, remote. This is a temporary to hire, full-time assignment. The organization is headquartered in Northampton, MA and will require minimal travel to their offices there.

 

ORGANIZATION TYPE: School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children

LOCATION: Remote (Based on the East Coast)

POSITION TITLE: Controller

SCHEDULE: 40 hours/week

DURATION: Temporary to permanent

HOURLY PAY: $58.00-$62.00/hour; $125,000/annually

 

Is This Your Dream Job: The Controller is a key leader for the School who reports to the CFO and is visible throughout the School’s management team. The Controller manages the accounting and general ledger of the Organization, including preparing financial statements and tax reporting and managing internal and external audits. The Controller administers the financial policies in compliance with funder requirements and has the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities with competing timelines.

 

Our Ideal Candidate:

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field

·        CPA and knowledge of nonprofit GAAP accounting

·        Ethical conduct and passion and alignment with the organization’s mission

·        Excellence in administering accounting applications including the ability to troubleshoot reports, Blackbaud products preferred

·        Excellent Microsoft Office skills including excellent Excel skills

·        Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

·        Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment

·        Team player

·        Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact with cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse groups of people

 

How You Will Spend Your Day:

 

·        Manage the general ledger. Oversee all activities in the accounting application (currently Blackbaud Financial Edge) including achieving a timely monthly close.

·        Develop and implement appropriate control and risk management procedures

·        Manage, coach, cross-train, and develop Finance team members in Accounts Payable, General Accounting, and Accounts Receivable/Student Billing.

·        Identify opportunities to streamline activities and lead implementation of new processes and technologies.

·        Meet established timelines and perform duties in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

·        Oversee daily and monthly banking activities including managing daily cash reporting, analysis and forecasting

·        Prepare monthly and annual financial reports

·        Manage accounting for state and federal grants including analysis of spend and reporting

·        Manage the year-end audit, 403(b) audit and tax filings with the outside auditors (e.g. 990, MA PC)

·        Prepare and submit relevant state filings, in consultation with relevant consultants

·        Coordinate on the payroll accounting with the Human Resources department which has primary responsibility for payroll.

·        Collaborate in the annual budget process, including analyzing variances and providing monthly reporting to stakeholders

·        Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned
