We are currently in search of an Associate Director of Development at a nonprofit educational institute. The position is based in Hillsborough, CA. This is a full-time permanent hybrid position.

SALARY: $100k - $125k

The Associate Director of Development is a core leader on the Advancement Team and is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the school’s Annual Giving programs. This position is responsible for strategically planning, successfully managing, and executing a comprehensive annual giving program by working closely with volunteers and managing annual giving relationships with donors, parents/guardians, trustees, parent/guardian volunteers, and the school’s faculty and staff. The position also serves as the administrative liaison with the CFA and supports their efforts and advances their goals. 

 

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred  
  • 4+ years in fundraising, donor relations, or a related field (independent school experience preferred) 
  • Proven track record in relationship management and constituent cultivation 
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills 
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with fundraising software, preferably Raiser’s Edge

 

How You Will Spend Your Day:

  • Fundraising Expertise: Proficiency in designing, implementing, and managing annual giving campaigns, including direct mail, text, email, phone, and face-to-face solicitations.
  • Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills to cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, alumni, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for crafting compelling fundraising messages, donor correspondence, and annual giving materials.
  • Data Analysis: Competency in using data to drive decision-making, including analyzing donor trends, tracking campaign progress, and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Donor Stewardship: Expertise in developing and implementing donor stewardship programs to ensure donors feel appreciated and engaged.
  • Project and Event Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and meeting budget constraints.
  • Volunteer and Team Management: Experience in leading teams, motivating volunteers and staff, and fostering a collaborative environment to achieve department goals.
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity and adaptability to diverse cultural backgrounds, understanding different perspectives, and fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and innovate new approaches to annual giving in response to evolving donor behaviors and preferences.
  • Innovative approach: Ability to think and act creatively to evolve practices and programs to maximize giving and engagement.
  • Annual Fund Campaign Execution: Successfully plan, execute, and manage an annual giving campaign that meets or exceeds goals set by the Board of Trustees. Lead a committee of parent/guardian volunteers to execute outreach and other campaign tasks.
  • Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with prospective and current donors, ensuring personalized communication and engagement strategies that foster long-term commitment and support.
  • Stewardship: Design and implement effective stewardship programs that recognize and appreciate donors, ensuring they understand the impact of their contributions and are motivated to continue their support.
  • Event Management: Design, oversee, plan, and execute high-quality donor events that effectively engage and inspire attendees, including major fundraising events.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Regularly track and report on fundraising progress and donor engagement metrics, using data to refine strategies and improve outcomes.
  • Volunteer Management and Engagement: Collaborate with volunteers and other members of the Advancement team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the school at community and external events, enhancing the school’s visibility and reputation as a worthwhile beneficiary of philanthropic support.
