Junior Benefits Analyst


REPORTS TO

Manager, Benefits Analysis


CONTACTS AND RELATIONSHIPS

The position interfaces with all departments within the organization, outside consultants, legal counsel and Pension and Health benefits related vendors.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Junior Benefits Analyst possesses technical and analytical aptitude and contributes to the Benefits Analysis team by performing analyses, supporting data analysis initiatives, and learning methodologies and best practices.


RESPONSIBILITIES

        Support the Benefits Analysis team in its efforts to prepare and perform analysis of data for pension benefits, health plan benefits, contributions, claims, and audit.

·        Collaborate with and assist Benefits Analysis team members in departmental projects and reports. 

·        Generate, prepare, and perform data modeling for various pension and health plan benefits, including contributions and audit.

·        Perform ongoing/regular (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual) reports and projects as assigned by department Manager.

·        Perform analysis of sensitive data with respect and confidentiality.

·        Leverage organizational tools (i.e., SAS, Excel, Power BI, etc.) to develop enhancements to existing processes and procedures.

·        Be able to work independently and ensure that assigned projects are completed accurately and on time.

·        Be able to prioritize and manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously.

·        Assist in the review of data transmitted to consultants, vendors, and internal users.

·        Participate in planning and completion of overall departmental projects.  Assist with management of program implementations.

·        Ability to accept direction and developmental guidance from department Manager.

·        Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels.

·        Ability to contribute to cross functional projects both within the Benefits Analysis team and organizationally with other team members as needed.

·        Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance is required.

·        Perform other duties as assigned, including ad-hoc requests as necessary.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·        Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to advise management of findings, trends, and other cost-saving benefits initiatives.

·        Detail oriented and ability to analyze large and complex datasets. Seek and obtain contextual understanding of assignments.

·        Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

·        Intermediate to strong Microsoft Excel skills preferred with understanding of and/or experience working with Excel functions/formulas, pivot tables/charts, power query, data model.

·        Experience creating narrative from complex datasets and developing meaningful visualizations for internal audiences of all levels.

·        Demonstrates commitment to organizational and team successes.

·        Ability to work in a busy environment and can manage multiple priorities.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field with some experience in data analysis is preferred. Use of analytical tools (i.e., SAS or Power BI) is a plus.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Possesses manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Position requires bending, reaching, walking, and lifting of up to 10 lbs.
