Position: Legal Assistant - Workers' Compensation Defense

Location: Remote (California Residents ONLY)

Overview

Our Client is seeking a Legal Assistant specialized in Workers' Compensation Defense. This role requires undertaking a broad range of secretarial and legal tasks by utilizing comprehensive knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documentations. The position emphasizes the coordination of legal document preparation and correspondence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Legal Documentation & Correspondence:
  • Transcribe legal dictation including status reports, conference summaries, and settlement disbursement reports.
  • Proofread materials for grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, and content.
  • Compose routine letters and memoranda.
  • Prepare pre-trial statements, settlement documents, and trial exhibits.
  • Record Keeping & Billing:
  • Maintain files, logs, and records related to the attorney's casework.
  • Document and bill for billable tasks according to procedures.
  • Communication & Equipment Operation:
  • Handle incoming and outgoing telephone calls.
  • Operate standard office equipment like copy machines and scanners.
  • Miscellaneous Tasks:
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years as a Legal Secretary in workers' compensation defense.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and shared cloud storage (e.g., Dropbox).
  • Familiarity with A1- Law Case Management Software, VTransact, and EAMS preferred.
  • Administrative Skills:
  • Typing speed minimum of 75 WPM.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, spelling, and grammar capabilities.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
  • Effective interaction with the public, clients, and employees.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion and tact.


Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, and work well under pressure. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. The role demands critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Candidates must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with attorneys and staff, maintaining a high standard of work quality.
