Summary

Our Client is looking for an Electrical Engineer to be a part of their dynamic team! You will be part of a team of driven and enthusiastic engineers working to prototype, design, develop, test, and operate our innovative STAR-3DTM hybrid rocket engine-powered small launch vehicle.

 

The Electrical Engineer II - Communications is responsible for designing, testing, and integrating in-flight and pre-flight telemetry systems to ensure full data connectivity between the launch vehicle and ground support systems including Launch Operations Control, Pad Operations, and Recovery.


You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. A willingness to branch outside your comfort zone is essential… we’re a small fast-paced company and everyone pitches in when needed. This is an opportunity to get in near the ground floor of an expanding space launch start up and have a direct impact on the development and production of a completely new space launch vehicle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop launch vehicle and ground system telemetry subsystem designs and specifications to meet program requirements. Evaluate contractor integration of telemetry into the Launch Operations Control Center (LOCC) software.
  • Analyze COTS and vendor-proposed flight and GSE telemetry systems and subsystems to include receiver/transmitter, signal processing, RF and antenna systems to ensure proper integration into the overall vehicle design.
  • Collaborate on a cross-functional team to capture requirements and interface specifications
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure cross-system concerns are identified and addressed.
  • Participate design reviews and incorporate feedback.
  • Participate in design reviews for other subsystems.
  • Rigorous test & integration of vehicle and ground telemetry systems with all interfacing systems or subsystem in collaboration with contractors
  • Troubleshoot anomalies real-time and provide solutions during non-conformance scenarios
  • Reduce, analyze, and archive test data to support verification tasks 

 

 Qualifications

  • MSci in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • BSci plus 2 years relevant experience with launch vehicle electrical systems can substitute for the MSci.
  • Hands-on lab experience troubleshooting and testing communications system designs.
  • Experience with data acquisition tools, hardware, and software for lab and mission logging.
  • Experience creating and owning Interface Control Documents.
  • Experience working with and leading in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills (written, verbal, and graphical).
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work rapidly with minimal supervision on projects involving both small and large engineering teams
  • Exhibits a strong safety work ethic
  • Experience with space vehicle telemetry design development, test, and troubleshooting hardware
  • Experience managing subcontracts
  • Ability to read electrical schematics/layout designs
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as necessary
  • US Person as defined in 22 CRF Part 120.15 (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees and those given asylum in the United States, and temporary residents granted amnesty) since work includes ITAR controlled technical data


Preferred Skills and Education

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience designing and testing launch vehicle or satellite telemetry systems
  • Demonstrated Engineering leadership roles on spacecraft and spaceflight throughout the lifecycle (concept development, requirements definition, design, development, testing, and operations)
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
  • Experience with software tools for design and layout, collaboration suites such as Siemens TeamCenter and/or other PLM suites
