Senior Superintendent


The Senior Superintendent/Superintendent III position is a critical role within Field Operations team. Reporting directly to the Director of Field Operations, the role will support the Director of Field Operations in all elements of the division; from leading the larger and more sophisticated projects that the company delivers, to operating as a technical specialist within the team and a figurehead of excellence that direct reports, peers, and management can look to for guidance and expertise. The role will also involve supporting the Director of Field Operations in mentoring, managing, and developing other members of the Field Operations team.


Required skills and experience

  •  7-10 years’ experience as a Lead Superintendent/in a position running projects as the Lead Superintendent
  • Has completed and led multiple Ground-Up/New Construction Projects, overseeing all elements of their projects from Conception to Completion/Handover.
  • Aerospace projects experience a highly desirable, but not at all required
  • Competent building and executing CPM Schedule and can demonstrate in the Scheduling Exercise, specific MS Project experience required.
  • Must have commercial acumen and the ability to build, articulate, drive, and actualize the Client’s vision of the project; ensuring all parties are always pulling towards the same objective.
  • Takes a proactive approach to ownership of the project and actively seeks to identify and solve problems before they arise; focusing on a multiple month lookahead, not just a few weeks.
  • Has the technical ability and comfort level, to operate as the leader on a $10M+ project and work alongside the Director of Field Operations to manage, mentor, develop and lead the other Superintendents.
  • Has Emotional Intelligence and is able to gain the client’s trust to deliver the project, keeping in mind that they are always being “assessed’ by the client and must always maintain professional image and performance.


Duties and Responsibilities

Job Summary – Responsible for overall leadership for on-site field administration, supervision, and technical management for all construction operations, including direct supervision of assistants, foreman, subcontractors, and other construction related personnel. Direct them in planning, coordination, and execution of work on time, within budget, attaining or exceeding profit goals, maintaining a safe workplace, promoting, and enhancing client relationships and the company image.

  • Can develop a project schedule and communicate sequence and schedule updates to all subcontractors and vendors.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce project site logistics, temporary facilities plan, materials delivery, and storage.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and enforce a project site specific: safety program; QC/QA program; EEO/labor relations signage requirements; OSHA requirements; OSHA site visits; permit posting requirements; company/client signage requirements.
  • Participate in preconstruction, post-bid, O/A/C meetings, scheduling and post-mortem meetings.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and enforce a project specific quality assurance and workmanship program.
  • Participate with the Project Manager in the issuance of monthly progress reports (if required).
  • Understand and properly utilize project allowances.
  • Perform and monitor all job site control reporting measures including daily reports, quantity reporting, accident and incident reports and timesheets.
  • Possess working knowledge of all project plans, specifications, subcontracts, purchase orders, daily correspondence, shop drawings, submittals, and all other project related documents, and maintain a complete and accurate set of red lined as-built drawings.
  • Review and provide feedback on all purchase orders and subcontracts.
  • Review all contract documents for potential conflicts or interpretation issues to mitigate risk.
  • Ensure timely project completion through project scheduling, expediting of material deliveries and the management of material and document submittals/approvals.
  • Notify project manager of second (third) tier subcontractor involvement on project for insurance purposes.
  • Understand all trade contractor’s means and methods in accordance with project contract documents.
  • Coordinate daily construction activities within existing operating facilities.
  • Have working knowledge and use Blue-beam punch list system.
  • Coordinate all required field inspections for local jurisdiction and/or third-party inspectors.
  • Actively participates in internal team(s) that focus on continuous improvement of the business.
  • In coordination with Project Team, implement the company’s Project Success Planning process and apply in the field as applicable.
  • Understand local labor requirements, availability, and capability for self-perform work.
  • Provide technical assistance to all members of the project team.
  • Familiar with all Policies and Processes as it relates to this position.
  • Actively participates on internal team(s) that focus on continuous improvement of the business.
  • Develop and mentor subordinates towards a successful career with the company.
  • Promote the growth and development of client, subcontractor, and vendor relationships.
  • Identify new work opportunities and inform Sales and Marketing of potential projects with current clients.
  • OSHA 30-hour Safety Course, first aid and CPR.
  • Understand the essential job functions, duties, and responsibilities of a Project Manager.
  • Technologically competent with scheduling software, e-mail, blue beam, etc.
  • Demonstrated competency in anticipating and resolving field related issues, interpersonal skills, and leadership.
  • Proven competence and proficiency of position’s essential job functions, duties, and responsibilities on multiple assignments.
  • Diverse project experience with extensive management skills to lead and communicate to people both internal and external to the company.
  • Proven staff training abilities on technical issues as well as company policies and processes.
