CONTROLLER

A private commercial real estate investment firm focused on the value-add acquisition of office, retail, and multi-family properties throughout the Western United States is seeking an exceptional Controller to join our team in the Los Angeles office.

Duties:

  • Responsibility for oversight and management of the accounting staff
  • Oversight of the monthly closing of books, and overall responsibility for financial statement preparation.
  • Oversight of the annual CAM reconciliation process and approval of final CAM recs.
  • Responsible for the training of accounting staff.
  • Oversight of quarterly investor reporting.
  • Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and revisions of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist 3rd party tax preparer and maintain a schedule of tax return deadlines.
  • Perform administrative functions related to MRI
  • Assist with the coordination of responses for information from our insurance broker.
  • Manage Payroll.
  • Ability to read and interpret commercial real estate leases.
  • Initiate approved wire transfers for acquisitions and other purposes.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, including balance sheets, P&L statements, and tax returns.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of monthly financial results on a timely basis.
  • Maintain the general ledger.
  • Work with tax preparer to deliver tax returns and K-1s to investors in a timely manner.
  • Understand and record complex Real Estate transactions.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Contribute to developing accounting procedures and strategies to improve efficiency by exploring new tools and software.
  • Design and implement managerial reports and analysis.
  • Assist in maintaining forecasted consolidated cash flows and business strategy models.
  • Evaluate and explain budget variances.
  • Oversee accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and contract administration.
  • Oversee Construction Project Cost Control & Reporting Package.
  • Oversee and maintain construction loan draws and communicate with Lender representatives.
  • Analyze and record acquisitions and dispositions.
  • Responsible for capital calls and distributions
  • Review and analyze monthly third-party property management reports.

Required:

  • Business degree required (Accounting major preferred)
  • CPA license is a plus
  • Public accounting experience a plus
  • At least 10 years of accounting experience required
  • At least 5 years of broad-based accounting for real estate experience
  • At least 2-5 years active supervisory experience required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must possess strong work ethic
  • Must be a team player
  • MRI experience strongly preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $105,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
