 Summary of Position The Controller establishes and maintains accurate financial records for the corporation, accomplishes consolidation of monthly results, assures compliance to regulatory and best practices, advises management and provides them with timely reports of financial status, and supervises an accounting staff. Overall Responsibilities and Duties • Maintains accurate financial records including balance sheet, reconciliations and consolidations. • Directs a team of three direct reports in areas including Financial Reporting/General Ledger, Accounting Operations (Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Sales Audit & Treasury) and Tax. • Oversees period & quarter-end close and daily operations of the accounting department. • In conjunction with the Financial Planning Department, analyzes operating results against budget. • Provides recommendations and implementation for procedural improvements. • Coordinates annual independent audit and preparation of annual tax documents. • Partners with the Financial Planning Department with budget preparation, budget proposals, and justification for proposed budgets. • Assists with the preparation of financial forecasts. • Ensures compliance with US GAAP and serves as key liaison on company financial issues. • In conjunction with VP of Financial Planning, establishes and implements short and long-range department goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education, Training, and Work Experience • Degree in Accounting or Finance • CPA with 5-7 years of progressive, public/private accounting experience • Big Four experience desirable • Retail/Restaurant experience helpful • Management experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Proven ability to improve accounting processes • Proven ability to manage people, resources and multiple priorities • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff • Ability to view department as a service organization to other departments & restaurant locations • Proven problem solving and analytical capabilities • Strong oral and written communication skills • Highly proficient personal computer skills and technology driven • Ability to network and collaborate cross-functionally • Well-developed communication, organizational and interpersonal skills • Embrace and manage change
