Job Title: Senior Linux Systems Engineer

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will focus on deploying custom software and services on Linux systems within the enterprise. This role involves providing technical support to a team of Engineers and Service Delivery integrators, specializing in Linux/Unix-based Enterprise Configuration Managed solutions. The Engineer will be responsible for creating configuration management-driven systems, executing life-cycle service models, and ensuring seamless integration with other systems. 

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning:

- Analyze business needs and translate requirements into use cases for automating system delivery.

- Develop, deploy, and maintain a Linux delivery catalog.

- Implement service-level standards and practices for Linux deployments.

- Identify open-source tools and technologies for accelerating system delivery through automation.

- Define methods for executing change management policies in medium-scale server environments.

- Develop practices for integrating security controls into the continuous integration lifecycle.

- Stay updated on emerging technologies in the Configuration Management space.

Acquisition & Deployment:

- Participate in capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for Linux systems.

- Utilize advanced scripting abilities (Bash Shell, Perl, Python) for server management.

- Engage in planning, design, and development improvements, focusing on simplification and optimization.

Operational Management:

- Administer and support policies, procedures, and technologies for Linux system security.

- Perform standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for related systems.

- Implement, perform, and test high availability and disaster recovery solutions.

- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on all Linux systems.

- Collaborate with application development teams throughout project lifecycles.

- Design and execute modifications to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.

- Ensure secure user access and role validation processes.

- Perform security audits and recommend changes to mitigate threats.

- Develop and maintain Linux system training materials and documentation.

- Mentor junior team members.

- Participate in capacity planning and performance management activities.

Incidental Functions:

- Contribute to other projects as required.

- Lead and attend meetings with the team.

- Assist with hiring activities and Change Management preparations.

- Provide periodic 24/7 on-call support.

- Some travel may be required.

- Work outside the standard office hours may be necessary.

Qualifications:

Formal Education & Certification:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Experience:

- 5+ years of IT experience.

- 5+ years of experience designing and deploying Linux-based virtualization systems.

- Experience with application deployment, databases, and virtualization services.

- Experience in Linux security vulnerability detection and remediation.

- Understanding of DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, and network concepts.

- Familiarity with automation and deployment tools (Puppet, Chef, Ruby, Jenkins, GIT, Python, Shell scripting).

Preferred Experience:

- Experience in storage administration and server hardening.

- Familiarity with PCI and HIPAA compliance standards.

- Implementation of ITIL-based service catalog for Linux platforms.

- Software development experience.

- Knowledge of database technologies (Oracle clustering and ASM, MongoDB, MySQL, DB2).

- Systems Administration experience.

- Understanding of container technology.
