Job Title: Senior Linux Systems Architect

Responsibilities:


Strategy & Planning:

  • Analyze business needs, translate requirements into use cases, and design and implement services for automating system delivery.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain a Linux delivery catalog, setting service-level standards and practices for Linux deployments.
  • Identify open-source tools and technologies to accelerate system delivery through automation and infrastructure orchestration.
  • Define methods for executing change management policies in medium-scale server environments.
  • Assess and apply security controls into the continuous integration lifecycle.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies in Configuration Management, translating functionality into an effective IT vision and strategy.


Acquisition & Deployment:

  • Support capacity planning and long-term strategic goals for Linux systems and software.
  • Engage in planning, design, and development of process improvements with a focus on simplification and optimization.
  • Collaborate with clients, peers, and decision-makers to define business requirements and system goals.


Operational Management:

  • Administer and support policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure Linux system security.
  • Participate in standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for file systems, networking, clustering, storage, and applications.
  • Implement and test high availability and disaster recovery solutions for applications.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems on all Linux systems.
  • Design modifications to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Ensure secure user access and role validation processes.
  • Conduct Linux server/database transaction and security audits, recommending and implementing changes.
  • Create reports in response to business user needs.
  • Develop and maintain Linux system training materials and documentation.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Participate in capacity planning and performance management activities.


Incidental Functions:

  • Assist with various projects to contribute to work efficiency.
  • Lead and attend team meetings.
  • Participate in hiring activities and change management preparations.
  • Provide periodic 24-7 on-call support.
  • Some travel may be required.


Qualifications:


Formal Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology or equivalent experience.


Knowledge & Experience:

  • 5+ years of IT experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and deploying Linux-based virtualization systems.
  • Experience with applications, databases, and virtualization services.
  • Experience in Linux security vulnerability detection and remediation.
  • Understanding of DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, and network concepts.
  • Understanding of automation and deployment tools (Puppet, Chef, Ruby, Jenkins, GIT, Python, Shell scripting, or similar).


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in storage administration.
  • Experience implementing Linux server hardening and security practices.
  • Experience with PCI and HIPAA compliance standards.
  • Experience implementing ITIL-based service catalogs for Linux platforms.
  • Software development experience.
  • Working knowledge of database technologies (Oracle clustering and ASM, MongoDB, MySQL, and/or DB2).
  • Systems Administration experience.
  • Understanding of container technology.
