Job Title: Senior Linux Systems Engineer

Location: Cleveland, OH (Hybrid Schedule)

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Linux Systems Engineer to join our team. As a Linux Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Linux systems to ensure efficient and secure system delivery. Key Responsibilities:


Strategy & Planning:

  • Analyze the organization's business needs, translate business requirements into use cases, and implement services for automating system delivery.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain a Linux delivery catalog.
  • Define and implement service-level standards and practices for Linux deployments.
  • Identify open-source tools, languages, and technologies for accelerating system delivery through automation and infrastructure orchestration.
  • Participate in developing standards and decisions regarding system/application changes.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies in Configuration Management and translate them into an effective IT vision and strategy.
  • Collaborate with technologists across the organization to assess current capabilities and bridge gaps with legacy and future systems.


Acquisition & Deployment:

  • Participate in capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for Linux systems and software.
  • Utilize advanced server scripting skills using Bash Shell, Perl, and/or Python.
  • Plan, design, develop, and implement improvements with a focus on process simplification and optimization.
  • Define business requirements, system goals, and resolve business systems issues through meetings with clients, peers, and decision-makers.


Operational Management:

  • Administer and support policies, procedures, and technologies for ensuring Linux system security.
  • Perform standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for related systems and applications.
  • Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on Linux systems.
  • Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles.
  • Implement effective system monitoring.
  • Enhance efficiency, reliability, and performance by executing modifications to Linux systems.
  • Ensure secure user access and role validation processes.
  • Perform security audits, identify security threats, and recommend changes as needed.
  • Create required reports and system training materials.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Participate in capacity planning and performance management activities.


Qualifications:


Formal Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology field or equivalent experience.


Knowledge & Experience:

  • 5+ years of IT experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing and deploying Linux-based virtualization systems (e.g., VMWare, OVM, XEN).
  • Experience deploying applications, databases, and virtualization services.
  • Experience in Linux security vulnerability detection and remediation (Qualys preferred).
  • Understanding of DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, and network concepts.
  • Familiarity with automation and deployment tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ruby, Jenkins, GIT, Python, Shell scripting).


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in storage administration practices.
  • Implementation of Linux server hardening and security practices, including PCI and HIPAA compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based service catalog for Linux platforms.
  • Software development experience.
  • Working knowledge of database technologies (e.g., Oracle clustering and ASM, MongoDB, MySQL, DB2).
  • Systems Administration experience.
  • Understanding of container technology.
