ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Electrical Project Engineer applies knowledge and experience to manage projects. The position is also responsible for implementing new designs and upgrades to electrical systems. The Engineer will manage multiple projects often from conception thru commissioning and close-out. Projects include capacity, process and reliability improvements for areas throughout the facility. The Electrical Project Engineer’s essential functions include:

  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional project teams to develop project scope and requirements
  • Develop and manage project scope, resourcing plan, budget, and schedule
  • Prepare capital authorizations
  • Develop specifications and evaluate technical engineering and equipment bid packages
  • Administer engineering, equipment purchase, and installation contracts
  • Coordinate and manage installations and outages
  • Track and report project performance, schedule, and cost compliance
  • Review design packages and drawings for compliance with contract documents and company standards
  • Coordinate with internal Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and Engineering resources to achieve project objectives
  • Participate in the final check-out of new installations. This includes factory and site acceptance testing that will assure adherence to functional specifications
  • Assist in trouble-shooting equipment control and electrical systems
  • Support electrical safety initiatives and Kaiser’s electrical standards
  • Comply with all Safety, Quality, and Environmental Regulations.

 

Requirements

EDUCATION  

 

An undergraduate degree in BSEE or BSET is required. 

 

EXPERIENCE

 

This individual will possess:

  • Minimum of 5 years previous electrical engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with functional and performance-based specification development
  • Familiarity with electrical and control system design including key documents such as schematics diagrams, single lines, P&ID and control narratives
  • Knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical systems, AC/DC motors and drive systems and National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E
  • Knowledge of control system theory, instrumentation, PLC based control systems and safety systems
  • Excellent analytical skills including knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Strong Word, Excel, MS Project skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work in teams
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Approximately 80% of the job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. 20% of the job function is required in the plant. There is exposure to operating machinery and a manufacturing environment.

  • Salary range $90,000-$130,000 per year depending on experience
