POSITION PURPOSE

Assist Superintendent of Tailings, Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) and interface with Engineer of Record (EOR) in (including but not limited to) tailings planning, short and long-term. Supports the business by using GIS and earthwork modeling software applications to provide detailed tailings deposition plans, water removal plans, supporting infrastructure designs and safe work plans for tailings management. The designer also works with appropriate team members to visualize the overall strategy and plans for the department and provides support in designing tailings storage facility (TSF) construction.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exemplify the Company Values in all efforts and interactions while working in compliance with all MSHA safety guidelines and Mine policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure all consultants, contractors and vendors are working in compliance with all Mine procedures. 
  • Ensure that all employees and contractors are certified to execute the tasks/jobs they are assigned.
  • Assist in work planning according to TSF design construction strategies, using survey and design tools.
  • Prepare long-term plans and short-term deposition plans that allow for the appropriate utilization and management of equipment and resources. 
  • Participate in and document weekly, monthly, and long-term project planning and scheduling meetings.
  • Develop medium and long-term plans as required.
  • Assist with the implementation of industry and global tailings standards and reporting.

  • Conduct job site review weekly and print and distribute plans for 7 day work week 
  • Build plans that minimize equipment downtime 
  • Create designs for the development of the active tailings storage facilities, the closure of closed storage facilities, and water management plans across all facilities
  • Develop supporting infrastructure designs, ie. Pipe/road corridors, channels, ditches, ponds.
  • Assist in managing GPS systems and uploading CAD files to Trimble systems on heavy equipment

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

(Required, Preferred)

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency

Preferred: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Projects 

YEARS OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

(Required, Preferred)

Required: 

  • Five to eight years’ experience working in the field of site civil design
  • Intermediate to Proficient computer skills (All Microsoft Office programs)
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D

 

Preferred:

  • CAD Certification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Strong time management skills required
  • Knowledge of TSF design, construction, operation, maintenance, and surveillance.
  • Knowledge of survey equipment, procedures, and principles
