JOB TITLE: Junior Mine Engineer
PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
Mine Engineer is responsible for short-term mine planning, mine surveying, assisting with geotechnical monitoring, supporting drill and blast planning, and providing technical guidance/support for the Mine Department and other Departments as required.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
· Accountable for the safety of themselves as well as that of their coworkers.
· Assist in the creation, refinement, and implementation of the short term mine plan (material sequence; access planning; pit design; shot muck inventory; blast design and planning; dump sequencing) to attain the Life of Mine Plan.
· Coordinate mine surveying activities and other Field Engineering Technician assignments to fully optimize this group’s time and efficiency.
· Coordinate mine planning and technical evaluation planning process and offer assistance or direct the activities for long and short-term projects (i.e. reclamation; hydrology; dump design; third party engineering studies; blasting techniques & procedures).
· Assist in developing accurate metal plans, particularly for weekly plans.
· Assist Mine Operations department to determine equipment requirements.
· Assist other departments (Geology, Environmental, etc.) in organizing, scheduling, and carrying out projects in and around the pit.
· Present mine plans in front of various group sizes and backgrounds.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
· Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geologic Engineering or Civil Engineering.
· A valid Driver’s License.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
· One to two (1-2) years of responsible mine engineering experience and/or Summer Intern experience.
· Mine Operations/Supervision experience would be beneficial.
· Open-pit mining operations experience is preferred, but not required.
· Basic knowledge of mine planning desired, but not required.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
· Excellent analytical, management, organization, communication and problem-solving skills.
· A working knowledge of MinePlan or other mine planning software package is preferred, but not required.
· Experience with acQuire, NPV Scheduler, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Light: Exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 15 lbs. of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly. Even when weight lifted is negligible, a job is rated light when: 1) it involves walking or standing to a significant degree: 2) it requires sitting most of the time but involves pushing and or pulling of arm or leg controls: 3) it involves working at a production rate that requires constant pushing or pulling of materials.
