PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The Mill Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Superintendent reports to the Mill Manager and is responsible for electrical employees and contractor performance in the areas of safety, environmental, efficiency, productivity, quality, planning and cost estimation. The Mill E&I Superintendent plans, organizes, manages, and supervises all electrical and instrumentation activities in the Mill. Additionally, the Mill E&I Superintendent is responsible for the reliability and integrity of all electrical systems including mine and mill power distribution, motors, transformers, instrumentation, sensors/analyzers, PLCs, electrical special projects, radio coverage etc. The Mill E&I Superintendent will establish tactical and strategic goals, objectives, policies, and procedures in assigned area(s). The Mill E&I Superintendent prepares and administers budgets for electrical and instrumentation groups and projects.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
· Forecast necessary funds for staffing, materials, supplies, and capital improvement projects. Submits budget recommendations and justifications. Monitors and controls expenditures.
· Develop, plan, and coordinate assigned projects and responsibilities. Coordinate work with other site departments and contractors.
· Review capital improvement plans and makes recommendations. Evaluate infrastructure, facilities, and operating systems for needed electrical maintenance and repair.
· Coordinate the activities of electrical consultants and contractors.
· Work on complex issues and implements solutions through the determination of strategy and delegation to others in a group or functional area.
· Has significant autonomy to set electrical objectives, priorities, and timelines that may impact other groups or functional areas within the company.
· Prepare and manage the electrical OPEX and CAPEX budgets.
· Assume the role of radiation safety officer.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
· Working knowledge of the NFPA70E and NEC regulations and MSHA surface codes.
· Understanding of distributive control, programmable logic controllers, visual interfaces, and instrumentation controls and devices.
· Working knowledge of electrical systems, such as, variable frequency drives, protective relays, medium voltage drives, wound rotor motors, synchronous motors, high current rectifiers, transformers and switchgear, and power distribution systems.
· Working knowledge of principles of electrical planning, scheduling, and coordination.
· Working knowledge of radio communication systems.
· Completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent work experience or trade school certificate.
· 10-15 Years of electrical field maintenance experience or similar equivalent experience in mining and milling environments.
· 5 Years of Project Management experience with electrical maintenance projects.
· A valid Driver’s License.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
· Ability to augment and adjust electrical power projects within the mine and mill group.
· Comfortable in mining and milling environments involving but not limited to shovels, drills, ball and sag mills, and related control systems.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
· Skilled in JD Edwards, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
· Travel as necessary, including overnight as necessary.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Direct General Supervisors, Supervisors, and other staff in daily operations. Inspects daily operations and projects in progress and upon completion to ensure quality and reliability of work.
· Provide administrative and technical direction to staff and interprets policies and procedures established by company and regulatory agencies.
· Recommend the selection and hiring of key staff.
· Work with employees to correct deficiencies. Implements disciplinary procedures, recommend discipline, investigate complaints, and recommends corrective actions as necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Medium: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Physical demand requirements are greater than that required for Light Work.
