As our Environmental Specialist, you will play a crucial role conducting compliance and monitoring efforts at the Mine. Additional duties will include ensuring environmental compliance, managing reporting to agencies, helping implement environmental management systems, providing training, and coordinating with the surface, mill and underground mine departments. Your contributions will help ensure the ongoing success of the mine's ability to operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.



Here’s what you can expect in this role:

● You will help to promote a strong environmental culture, promoting and teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices.

● Help manage air and water programs.

● Manage our environmental data management system.

● Conduct and oversee field work to collect monitoring data and maintain instrumentation including piezometers, inclinometers, weather station, etc.

● Prepare appropriate internal and external reports and timely submit utilizing proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, as well as various internal computerized systems.

● Interpret and analyze water, wastewater, and stormwater data across the site.

● Work closely with Environmental Technicians to ensure sampling is completed, scheduled, and recorded.

● Establish strong working relationships with operations and maintenance staff across the site to facilitate efficient and timely projects.

● You will help to foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices throughout the organization.



POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Specialist will report to the Environmental Manager. This role will primarily be responsible for environmental monitoring and maintaining systems to prevent or minimize impacts on the environment. This position plays a key part in advancing the facilities culture around sound environmental programs, by performing the following duties.

• Working in conjunction with other Environmental personnel, to provide site-wide oversight through compliance and operational monitoring and reporting to evaluate impacts of mine development and operation on the environment.

• Conduct compliance and operational monitoring and reporting.

• Assist with the monitoring programs including field data collection, laboratory coordination, shipping, data review, resultant data compilation, and some analysis.

• Responsible for the equipment operation and maintenance, and data synthesis.

• Assists with meteorological and air quality monitoring systems including the equipment operation and maintenance, and data acquisition and reporting.

• Assist with permitting, renewals, and tracking compliance.

• Will coordinate and cooperate with other departments as needed.

• Help with training efforts across the site.

• Performs work place inspections to determine compliance with regulatory and company environmental standards, and ensures corrective actions are taken when necessary.


SAFETY, HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Include, but are not limited to:

• Display due diligence in safety & health, and environmental matters and lead by example to ensure the successful implementation of the Safety & Health Management System, and the Environmental Management System

• Promote open communication and cooperation.

• Ensure that all employees, contractors, and visitors are informed of safety, health, and environmental issues on site and distribute relevant safety, health, and environmental information.

• Undertake safety and health audits and inspections and interact with personnel concerning improving work practices and following up on action items.

• Support all personnel in achieving and maintaining desired safety, health, and environmental outcomes.

• Recognize superior safety, health, and environmental performance to help increase commitment and participation.

• Manage, notify, report, and investigate incidents and hazards in a timely manner as required.

• Manage compliance with safety and health and environmental requirements and ensure issues are being addressed prior to commencement of work (such as permits completed, isolations checked, and tagging completed).

• Manage compliance with federal and state environmental regulations to ensure a field presence on a routine basis.

• Verify that personnel hold the appropriate qualifications and licenses.

• Monitor the safe use and control of all tools and equipment.

• Promote and assist in the implementation of site safety initiatives and safety-monitoring tools.

• Assist in preparing and contributing to monthly safety, health, and environmental reporting.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biological science, or related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Strong analytical skills.

• Ability to conduct research and collect data in the field.

• Prefer work experience in industry. Experience and familiarity with job functions as described.

• Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing desired.

• Understanding of environmental regulations related to mining and waste is preferred, but not required.
