Chief Commercial Officer (CCO)

Based in Minneapolis, the Chief Commercial Officer (steel sector) will report to the President & CEO of a growing company whose focus is on the decarbonization of global steel production. This role will be responsible for developing and delivering the company’s global commercial business strategy including sales, marketing, distribution and logistics.  The successful candidate will build and lead a team of 4+ direct reports in support of the company’s sustainability and financial objectives.


General Responsibilities


  • Develop and execute the commercial business plan for the company in alignment with the company’s mission and values. 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships to ensure safe, efficient and sustainable supply chain, both upstream and downstream, for the company.
  • Develop and lead the company’s sales and marketing efforts to support ongoing business targets including development and execution of sales team members and related sales objectives.
  • Develop and lead the company’s distribution and logistics strategy in iron ore pellets and direct reduced iron (DRI).
  • Develop and lead company’s guidelines and policy regarding commercial regulatory compliance – including FCPA, Jones Act, etc.
  • Develop and lead commercial team of employees with a strong focus on safety, financial effectiveness, and employee retention outcomes.
  • Build and maintain a competitive pricing strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, supply chain management or related discipline required, graduate degree a plus. Technical education or background a plus.
  • Ten or more years’ experience in strategic and tactical commercial leadership role within the resource industry - prior experience in the steel, iron ore or DRI sectors, both domestic and foreign operating jurisdictions highly desired. 
  • Demonstrated competency in commercial business strategy execution required.
  • Strong background in analyzing, optimizing and resolving commercial / logistics challenges required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to interact at all levels of the organization including a variety of diverse external stakeholders/
  • Ability to approach work with flexibility and agility as changing industry and business needs arise.
  • Ability to work well independently as self-driven leader while holding employees accountable.
  • Strong attention to safety and regulatory requirements and policies required.
  • Effective organizational skills including attention to detail.
  • Proven experience developing and leading teams of employees.
