Industrial Hygiene Specialist


 

The purpose of the IH Specialist is to implement an effective sampling and monitoring program for health hazards while working with operations and support teams to create a health minded culture. The IH Specialist will advise on best practices, risks, and strategies to create a world class Industrial Hygiene Program. Additionally, the IH Specialist will work closely with the Health and Employee Services Team to proactively support Health and Wellness Programs at the Site and surrounding communities as part of the company’s stewardship programs. Safety and Industrial Hygiene will work side by side to improve compliance to the Safety and Health Management System Pillars while building a positive culture that drives ownership across the operating departments.

 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement a hazard sampling program in accordance with AIHA protocols and standards
  • Evaluate data and recommend best practice controls
  • Work closely with operating department management to proactively reduce IH related risk
  • Develop and communicate an overall sampling strategy and similar exposure groups
  • Interpret lab data and develop trend analysis
  • Calibrate and manage IH related pumps, dosimeters, and sample media
  • Develop relationships built on trust and respect with the workforce
  • Review and communicate industry changes and best practices
  • Assist with Health and Wellness projects and objectives
  • Collaborate with Safety personnel and integrate IH material into morning line out meetings and conversation with crews
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies including MSHA and ASMI
  • Participate in Safety and Health related trainings topics including Industrial Hygiene and other Safety and Health related content
  • Coach and train site staff on IH processes and procedures to increase the site knowledge base
  • Support and advise on any budgetary needs for IH program

Promote a culture at the mine where the supervisory community ensures that employees and contractors are competent to execute the tasks / jobs assigned in a safe and healthy manner.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge 

  • Demonstrated experience with Industrial Hygiene regulations and standards
  • Knowledge of sampling equipment and media
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • ArcGIS mapping (optional)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or related discipline

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software including Powerpoint, Excel, and Word

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The majority of the work performed is done in the operational and support areas. However, some work is performed in an office environment.
