ENGINEERING MANAGER

Direct and manage the Engineering functions which include engineering, construction, exploration, permitting, environmental compliance, land, coal sampling and analysis, and mine geology. Responsible for development of short term and long term mine plans, roof control and ventilation plans, standard operating procedures, mining equipment specifications, evaluation and implementation of new mining technology, and evaluation of least expansions and acquisitions.

 Summary:

• Manages technical support activities for the safe and efficient operation. This includes mine engineering and design, mine geology, roof control and ventilation plans, standard operating procedures, support in the safety area, cost and productivity evaluation, surveying, drafting, mine equipment specifications, coal sampling and coal quality analysis, and short term operations planning in conjunction with the operations group.
• Development of alternative mining plans and associated technical financial information for evaluation of marketing and business opportunities and for budgeting and long rage planning.
• Manages the Permitting, Environmental Compliance, and Land Functions. This includes permit applications, revisions, modifications, reviews and renewals; environmental monitoring and reporting, reclamation, land issues and negotiations, due diligence compliance, legal issues, and monitoring legislative activities in these areas.
• Management of construction activities associated with the planned growth. This includes engineering design, cost estimates, construction management and project control and preparation of documents and contracts in this area.
• Exploration and expansion of mining areas, and evaluation of potential acquisition targets. This requires substantial interface with corporate staff personnel.
• Evaluation of new mining technology and mining methods, i.e., longwall, diesel particulate control technology, and continuous haulage.

Qualifications:

• Must have a B.S. in Mining Engineering or similar technical area with equivalent practical experience. Must have 10 years practical engineering/operating experience in the mining industry. Must have excellent technical, communication and human relations skills.

Supervision Received/Supervision Exercised:

• Directly supervises mine site engineering staff.
