Compensation:
Generally seeking $85K/yr to $105K/yr. There may be some additional
flexibility for well-qualified candidates.

Job Description / Duties:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a local Lansing, MI area
company that builds high precision microfinishing (superfinishing)
machines utilized in the automotive, medical, defense, and motorsport
industries. We are seeking a Controls Engineer to help develop machine
tool controls into the next generation. The job responsibilities
include design, programing, and analysis activities for machine control
systems from concept through production.

Responsibilities / Job Duties:
• Lead design of machine controls to meet ours and
customers design specifications with the least cost and minimum
engineering time, using existing designs and programs where possible.
• Design component layouts to meet all applicable
specifications. Designs to conserve space, be safe, reliable, and
simple with the lowest cost and minimum of engineering time.
• Program machine controllers to meet all
specifications to operate efficiently with all safety features
incorporated.
• Evaluate inside/outside design capabilities, supply
accurate information and support documentation to keep designs on time
and to customer specifications.
• Coordinate and lead review of control designs with
Mechanical Project Engineer and Coordinators assigned to job prior to
build.
• Provide all required documentation to customer as
scheduled for approval.
• Maintain adequate and organized records of purchase
orders, drawing approvals, etc., per assign job.
• Obtain competitive quotations (electrical control
enclosures, push button stations, etc.) as required. Issue
requisitions, taking in account long lead time items to keep project on
schedule.
• Work efficiently with shop personnel in the build,
startup, debug, and support the run-off of machine.
• Support Service Technicians and Training personnel
during machine startup in customer plant.
• Provide support to the Sales & Parts Department
as required.
• Attend meetings regarding job content, scheduling,
and job progress as requested by the Customer, Sales Department,
Manufacturing or Management.
• Remain current with the latest technology in the
industry and advise Engineering Manager of any new trends that could be
incorporated into our machine designs.
Requirements / Skills:
• Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Controls
Engineering or similar field is preferred. We MAY consider very well
qualified candidates who don’t have a degree but do have relevant
experience. High School Diploma or GED is required at a minimum.
• 2 to 3 years experience in machine tools or related
industry.
• Experience with engines or powertrains is a plus.
• Working knowledge of Allen Bradley or Siemens PLC's
and HMI software.
• Experience with EPlan design software is a plus.
• Computer skills to include all Microsoft Products
with working knowledge of Windows base systems.
• Strong analytical skills: Able to compile
data into useable form, recognize patterns in data, information, or
events, draw logical conclusions, and make recommendations for action.
• Must be self-motivated, self-directed, and possess
strong organizational skills.
• Strong communication skills both written and oral.
• Willing to work hands-on in the plant and at the
customer's facilities as needed.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
• This is a standard 1st (day) shift role.
• This role may involve some travel to customer sites
as needed. Travel will not be common, rather a special circumstance to
troubleshoot issues on site. Travel may be local, domestic, or on a
rare occasion international.
