Engineering Designer II


POSITION PURPOSE

This position serves our customers with a focus on cohesive quality through engineering design documentation. Individual utilizes their technical background to document, or oversee documentation, to support ordering, manufacturing, and introduction of products.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS

• Displays ability to operate within a Bill of Materials (Configured BOM’s preferred).

• Displays ability to understand tasks within the business flow; including Inquiry/Consulting, BOM, Modeling, Manufacturing, Mock-ups and Install.

• Experience with Microsoft Office, ERP (SAP Preferred), Operating Macros via Microsoft Excel.

• Operates as communicator within our business groups as well as Haworth as an organization. Has a strong internal network and may be involved with NPI or Marketing strategies in a Tailored Solutions design role.

• Displays a level of understanding of multiple product lines, with a well-rounded understanding of the full Haworth SOL.

• Assists in engineering layouts for major projects or complex products, using appropriate Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools (personal computer [PC] or workstation), via keyboard/mouse, to accurately present design concept. Establishes initial multi-dimensional model base features, using tool.

• Assists with analyzing designs for proper form, fit, and function, including basic manufacturability, assembly, and disassembly, using CAD tools and/or calculator, to ensure design and documentation of new and existing products meets established quality and performance standards. Makes initial selection of materials, common or generic parts, and engineering standards for designs, using catalogs, reference books, other product drawings, or basic engineering principles.

• Develops engineering assembly and detail documentation to support Tailored Solutions new designs.

• Prepares engineering documentation, including Engineering Change Orders (ECO/ECMs), Bills of Material (BOMs), parts lists, engineering specifications, and other supporting forms, either manually, using PC-based word processing and spreadsheets, or CAD, to maintain clear project documentation.

• Assembles tailored product, using power and hand tools. Lifts/moves parts weighing up to 60 pounds. Interfaces with production areas for information gathering and pilot product development activities.




QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Work Experience

• Associate degree in engineering design field or equivalent.

• Four years design/drafting experience, including two years product design experience.

OR

• Four-year technical degree.

OR

• Equivalent design and drafting experience and training.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• BOM experience.

• CAD and 3D modeling experience

• Develops product knowledge.

• Begins to work towards a champion for change – Develops experience with HMS tools

• Begins to provide solutions during continuous improvement projects

• Establishing a network to work cross-functionally

• Knowledgeable of applicable global standards such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drafting practices, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) and Canadian Government Test Standard (CGSB) preferred.

• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to travel overnight away from corporate offices, including internationally, up to ten percent of time.
