Senior Mechanical Engineer (Munitions)


Type of Position:

6-month contract position to start. Likely to be extended – good chance for ultimately going direct hire.


Candidate Requirements:

This role requires candidates to be eligible for Secret Security Clearance (candidates don’t need a clearance to start however). This will mean that all candidates must be US Citizens to be eligible. Candidates who are Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) will not be eligible for this role. Candidates on CPT, OPT, H1B or TN visas are also not eligible for this role. This company is NOT open to corp2corp (c2c) or corp2hire (c2h).


Job Location:

Fridley, MN (hybrid role – approx. 50% in office, 50% from home). Limited relocation assistance may be available for non-local candidates.


Compensation:

$57.83/hr to start. Overtime paid at 1.5x over 40 hours.

Job Description:

HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major defense contractor to help hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Munitions). In this role, you will research, plan, analyze, design, and develop mechanical products such as ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, mechanisms, and other devices. Performs technical analysis, testing, and evaluation of moderately complex engineering problems using specialized equipment and computer programs. Analyzes and interprets design specifications, drawings, documents, models, and test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements. Develops and writes technical documentation, makes revisions to existing documentation, and provides input to technical papers or presentations. May deliver technical presentations related to production support activities. Create & maintain product parts, assemblies & drawings using PTC Creo Parametric 7.0 modeling software.


Responsibilities:

  • Performs complex engineering design, development, analysis, experimentation, test, and product assurance tasks of limited complexity for assigned portions of a project.
  • Solves moderately complex engineering problems which have not been clearly defined and may not have similar precedents available.
  • Ensures tasks meet cost, quality, schedule, and performance requirements.
  • Applies a wide range of engineering design and analytical theory, principles, techniques, and practices to a complex portion of a technical project.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with customers.
  • Acquires and maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines, industry practices, trends, and applications.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety policies and rules.
  • Provides input to project leaders for the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets.


Skills, Experience, Education Required:

  • Minimum 4 years work experience in a relevant work environment.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience with CREO (formerly Pro-E / ProE).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Must have a working knowledge of creating moderately complex solid models and mechanical designs using CAD systems, preferable PTC Pro-E or CREO.
  • Ability to solve moderately complex technical design and development problems that require a professional level of engineering knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).


Skills, Experience, Education Preferred:

  • 4+ years of experience with CREO (formerly Pro-E / ProE) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards.
  • Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in a military product production environment.
  • Good working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 (2009 or 2018).
  • Good working knowledge of Tolerance Stack Analysis.


Work Environment:

  • This is a 1st (day) shift role that works a 9/80 schedule (9-hour days, every other Friday off).
  • There will be occasional overtime in this role. Any OT will be paid at 1.5x.
  • Please note, this will be a hybrid role (approx. 50% in office, 50% from home).
  • Offer will be contingent upon a drug screen (which includes cannabis) and criminal background check.
