Title: Project Controls Engineer

Location: East Lansing, MI

Schedule: Onsite, M-F (1st shift)

Contract: 6-months contract to permanent

Compensation: $40-$45/hour (similar annual salary upon conversion to direct hire)

Onboarding Requirements: Background check, employment verification, drug screening


Job Summary: You will play a crucial role in facilitating and managing project controls for a state-of-the-art facility for rare isotope beams. This includes developing, maintaining, integrating, and reporting project and sub-project schedules and cost estimates, actively monitoring schedule and cost baselines, and providing timely reports and analyses in accordance with requirements and best practices in project management.


Responsibilities:

  • Utilize advanced project management software to develop and maintain integrated project schedules, ensuring compliance with university policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Develop and maintain cost control processes, collect and report cost status for management reporting and earned value tracking, and analyze cost/budget expenditures
  • Review and analyze schedule and cost performance for reporting to project management and earned value tracking using specialized software tools
  • Identify and develop schedule contingency, analyze schedule variances, and propose remediation strategies, including critical path analysis
  • Provide ongoing cost engineering/planning and scheduling guidance, and report monthly status to project and sub-project managers
  • Lead regular project controls meetings to review and update performance, driving forward state-of-the-art advancements in science and technology


Skills:

  • Proficiency in project management software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project
  • Knowledge of earned value management methods
  • Experience with Deltek Cobra Earned Value Management Software and Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio management or Microsoft Project
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Technical aptitude to learn and update complex custom software with limited training


Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline
  • Five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible work experience in project control positions
  • Certification as a Project Management Professional or equivalent combination of education and experience


MAJOR BONUS: Experience involving DOE-SC (Department of Energy Science Office) and/or NSF (National Science Foundation)



Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline


Work Direction and Interfaces:

  • Report to Project Controls Manager
  • Interface with team members, project leaders, subject matter experts, and suppliers
