Purpose

Get ready to ride the tech wave at FRIB, where our computing systems are as cool as the experiments we're running! As the Information Technology Professional, you'll be the superhero behind the scenes, tackling computing conundrums and making our systems sing. It's a Linux-based fiesta with a Juniper twist, and we promise, it's cooler than your favorite superhero's secret lair.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

· Be the maestro orchestrating the FRIB tech symphony - from automated Linux system installations to jazzy network configurations and everything in between.

· Sprinkle your magic on the FRIB office infrastructure network and our NSCL controls infrastructure network – because even supercomputers need a little TLC.

· Embrace your independence as you whip up moderately complex solutions to system issues, all while providing diagnostic support that would make Sherlock Holmes proud.

· Solve routine tech problems like a ninja in a room full of rubber ducks – with style and flair.

· Recognize when things get as tricky as quantum physics and call in the reinforcements (a.k.a. your awesome Business IT crew).

· Dance to the rhythm of FRIB policies and best practices, and join the Agile Scrum team – where every sprint is a new adventure.

· Manage projects with the finesse of a tightrope walker, all within the FRIB project management framework. Skills, meet thrills.

· Keep upgrading your tech toolbox because, let's face it, the only constant in tech is change. FRIB is like the Disneyland for IT professionals!

Position Duties

· Execute tasks like a tech ninja on a mission, meeting milestones and performance objectives (think of them as high scores).

· Follow approved work control plans like they're the ultimate cheat codes – because we're all about winning.

· Stop work when things get weirder than a sci-fi plot twist and inform line management – because even IT heroes need a break.

· Craft quality work under the watchful eye of your line manager – we promise, it's not as intimidating as it sounds.

· Juggle multiple assignments with the finesse of a circus performer – no clowning around, just quality work under pressure.

· Maintain division/department policies like you're guarding the gates of tech heaven.

· Dive into new systems and projects, because at FRIB, we don't fear the unknown – we embrace it.

· Develop project and systems work scope, cost, and schedule like a tech wizard.

· Identify new initiatives because, let's be honest, FRIB is where innovation goes to party.

· Be the tech maestro accountable for delivering quality work – cue the applause.

Qualifications Required

· Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of experience in the tech arena; or equivalent combo of education and experience (because who needs sleep when you have tech puzzles to solve?).

· Ability to complete responsibilities with the finesse of an APA 10 – the superhero of tech roles.

Desired

· Knowledge acquired through the first few years of college, technical school, or a dance-off in a STEM field (Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or STEM, anyone?) with a side of programming coursework.

· Programming wizardry in C, C++, Python – or a Bachelor's Degree in the magical arts of Computer Science, Information Systems, or STEM with a programming flair.

· Up to six months of tech-related experience – because we all started somewhere.

· Shell scripting skills that make BASH jealous.

· Functional knowledge of version control systems, specifically Git (because tracking changes is serious business).

· Linux command-line prowess, specifically BASH – because real superheroes don't need a GUI.

· Experience with system configuration management using Puppet, Ansible, etc. – because setting up systems should be as easy as pie.

· Ethernet networking know-how; TCP/IP, switching, routing, etc. – because even our data likes to travel in style.

· Familiarity with system virtualization or container technologies: VMWare, KVM, LXC/Docker – because virtual worlds need tech heroes too.

· Ability to acquire new tech skills and use them to contribute to FRIB projects – because the only constant is change.

· Willingness to work with export-controlled items – because at FRIB, we play with the cool toys.

· Flexibility to work outside normal hours – because sometimes, tech needs a little midnight magic.

Work Direction and Interfaces

· Report to the Group Leader – your tech guide through the FRIB adventure.

· Collaborate with team members, project leaders, subject matter experts, and suppliers – because teamwork makes the tech dream work.
