The Opportunity (Role Summary)

The Multi-site Lab Technician is responsible for performing blood sample collection, process on lab machine, ensure proper patient ID and labelling, determine appropriate drawing method, maintain accurate records, organize documents, receive training in Andrology, maintain a clean work station, follow infection control standards, and fulfil assigned duties. You are expected to be courteous, and sympathetic when it comes to working with patients and dealing with them.


Responsibilities:

  • Collect blood samples from patients.
  • Process the sample on Laboratory machine as guidelines.
  • Practice proper patient identification, labeling vials properly.
  • Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient.
  • Keep accurate records on fluid specimens and tests.
  • Collects and organizes documents as required.
  • To be trained on Andrology (Semen analysis, sperm wash.etc.).
  • Keep the phlebotomy cart and station well-organized at all times.
  • Practice infection control standards while working with patients and equipment at all times.
  • Other duties, as assigned.


Required Qualifications:


Formal Education or Equivalent

  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent
  • Medical laboratory technologist with CSMLS certification
  • Current registration with CMLTO in good standing


Years of Experience

  • Minimum of two years of Laboratory experience specific to phlebotomy techniques

  • Experience with effective puncture techniques
  • Understanding of proper patient identification methods
  • Knowledge of legal requirements about drawing blood, handling fluid samples and use of relevant medical equipment and material
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work safely and accurately, follow directives from assigned Clinic Manager, and complete assigned tasks promptly
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and adjust to varying work assignments as needed, or independently, as required
