Automotive manufacturing experience required.

Quality Engineer Summary


The quality engineer is in charge of making sure that the objectives of the customers, employees, and investors are balanced and fulfilled.


In order to guarantee that both customer needs and product quality are satisfied, the Quality Engineer (QE) communicates with consumers. interacts with every facet of the plant to guarantee that the cost of quality is being fulfilled.


Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Prepare documentation and provide support for new program part launches and process changes including PPAP, ISIR Control Plan, IPC etc.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and report from Table cross-functional meetings to address internal and external concerns.
  • Interface with quality supervisors to ensure all quality checks are addressing the key characteristics of the product.
  • Responsible for all aspects of corrective actions (on-time closures, repeat concerns, root cause, etc.).
  • Responsible for meeting customer targets, ie. PPM, incident rates, RMA’s.
  • Conduct product audit to verify the stability of the process.
  • Onsite visits with customers to address quality issues (customer satisfaction).
  • Responsible for updated FEMA occurrence values based upon internal/external concerns, scrap rates and/or FTC.
  • Review FMEA severity, and occurrence and detect values for accuracy.
  • Responsible to reduce RPN values in FMEA’s.
  • Interface with the quality dimensional team to ensure dimensional stability is met as per customer requirements. Mean shifts and SPC data.
  • Ensure that an investigation takes place on all process failures, such as corrective actions, PDCA, Teardown PDCA, RMA, product audit Issues.
  • Perform system audits of part production programs and part reviews to ensure acceptable quality levels are maintained and properly monitored.
  • Make decisions and advise on an ongoing basis to ensure customer and management directives are met.
  • Coordinate and track progress for interdepartmental studies.
  • Take additional training to maintain pace with new technology. Will require some personal time.
  • Perform analyses for verification of quality concern corrective action effectiveness.
  • Approve inspection sheets, and generate APQP documentation.
  • Ensure manufacturing countermeasures are implemented and effective.
  • Coordinate SPC mean shifts when dimensional Engineers when approved by the customer
  • Control plans, QA inspection instructions, KOI’s, FMEA’s, customer site verification, top 5 failure modes reports, and month-end reports.
  • Perform other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Position Requirements:

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a four-year college or university with 1+ years of Quality Engineering experience; or 8 years of equivalent Quality Engineering experience.
  • Must be skilled with APQP and SPC concepts both theoretical and practical, CMM equipment and data analysis, problem statements and root cause analysis, common problem-solving methods and techniques.
  • CQE, CQM, and/or ASQM credentials preferred.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work with other computer systems & programs related to the performance of Quality activities.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Competent understanding of fixture design concepts and ability to use basic metrology equipment.

 

Communication Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Able to provide clear direction and training to individual and small groups of employees.

 

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Office environment: 70% sitting/standing at desk; 30% walking
  • Lifting as required up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to work three shifts as requested.
