Summary:

A leading global manufacturer in PTFE hoses is seeking a Materials Controller for their facility in North Central, Connecticut.  This company supplies PTFE / Nylon media transfer solutions to the automotive market. 

 

You will be supporting a 91,000 square foot manufacturing operation whose core competencies include Paste Extrusion, Stainless Steel Braiding, Melt Extruded Products, Convoluted Tape Wrap Product Lines, and Assembly. Their comprehensive manufacturing, engineering, and product innovation capabilities make them a key solution provider in the Industrial, Truck/Bus, automotive markets. 

 

Title:

Materials Controller is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the inventory of materials required for production. This role ensures that the company maintains an adequate supply of materials at competitive prices while maintaining quality standards. The Materials Controller collaborates with suppliers, internal departments, and the Purchasing team to optimize purchasing strategies and reduce costs.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

Sourcing and Purchasing:

·     Identifying and evaluating potential suppliers based on price, quality, service, and reliability.

·     Working with Purchasing on contracts, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure the best possible pricing and delivery schedules.

·     Issuing purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of materials to meet production schedules.

Managing Inventory:

·     Monitoring inventory levels and ensuring adequate supply of materials without overstocking.

·     Implementing inventory control procedures and optimizing inventory turnover and reduce excess stock.

Managing Supplier Relationships:

·     Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to ensure long-term partnerships.

·     Addressing and resolving any issues related to supplier performance, quality, or delivery.

·     Evaluating supplier performance and provide feedback for continuous improvement (may include some on-site supplier visits).

Managing Costs:

·     Analyzing market trends and pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities.

·     Implementing cost reduction strategies without compromising quality.

Quality Assurance:

·     Ensure that all purchased materials meet the required quality standards and specifications.

·     Collaborate with the Quality team to address any material-related issues.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

·     Work closely with Production, Engineering, Purchasing and other departments to understand material requirements and specifications.

·     Participate in cross-functional teams to improve processes and support new product development.

 

Requirements:

 

Education:      

·     Bachelor’s degree preferred.

·     Professional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) are a plus.

Work experience:

·     5-7 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing/industrial setting.

·     ISO/ TS environment preferred.

     

Other requirements:

·     Strong negotiation and communication skills.

·     Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

·     Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·     Knowledge of inventory management principles and practices.

·     Experienced in supplier management.

·     Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

·     Ability to analyze, think quickly and creatively, and make decisions under sometimes stressful conditions. 

·     Proficient in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.

·     Experience with SAP is a plus.
