Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Main Duties & Responsibilities


As a Manufacturing Automation Engineer, you will be working with new global product launch teams developing processes and equipment concurrent to new product creation and launch.

 

You will support and lead manufacturing start-up including plant layout, equipment rigging, determining power requirements, process development, optimization of flow, machinery and equipment acquisition, continuous improvement and other duties associated with engineering support of production.

 

You will understand how to apply injection molding processes, applications, and emerging molding capabilities.  You will be skilled at optimizing line layouts, applying ergonomic design criteria, applying machine controls, and a variety of assembly methods.

 

What you’ll be doing:

 

·     Working closely with plant leadership developing designs for manufacture and assembly optimized concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques to achieve low-cost designs to meet customer goals. 

·     Participating in cross functional product development teams in new product development requirements.

·     Designing processes, developing new equipment, and leading fabrication.

·     Creating work instructions, and validation criteria.

·     Ensuring an effective transition of equipment to production.

·     Supporting manufacturing operations in the areas of process development, tool design, machine programming, equipment acquisition, manufacturing layout, and continuous improvement.

·     Providing direction and technical support in identifying continuous improvements to manufacturing operations and implementing new technologies

·     Developing processes, researching current and emerging technologies and evaluating process quality, cost, capacity, and capability alternatives.

·      Creating documentation. 

Your background: 


Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or related degree.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in automated manufacturing process design and development.

Technical background automated high-speed assembly.

Able to troubleshoot different types of sensors, solenoid valves, electrical motors, electrical switchgears, PLC, HMI, VFD, Servo drives and guiding rails.

Must be familiar with vibratory feeders, servo drives, VFD’s, conveyor belts, indexing tables driven by electrical motors, continuous process machines.

Basic knowledge of PLC/HMI/VFD programming desired. 

Hands on experience in electrical drawing (AutoCAD) and mechanical drawing (2D, 3D).

Experience with developing and implementing successful solutions for complex manufacturing processes.

Lean or Six Sigma Certification.

Experience in ISO9001.

Skilled in Project and Process management.

Proven experience in process design and development.

Previous involvement with New Plant Start-ups is preferred.

May require up to 30% travel.
