Position Title: Cytotechnologist 

 

Location: 1 hour East of Raliegh, NC 

 

Shift: Monday to Friday Day Shift Hours (willing to accept full time or part time) 

 

Job Description 

Cytotechnologist (Healthcare Sciences) 

Job Responsibilities 

Shift: Monday-Friday, Day Shift 

Performs complex light microscopic analyses, renders cytodiagnostic interpretations, and performs quality control activities. Primary responsibilities include releasing final interpretations for Pap tests that are negative for an intraepithelial lesion or malignancy and lacking reactive changes. Required by law to keep a record of the number of slides evaluated and the number of hours spent on slide evaluation daily. 

 

Additional responsibilities of the Cytotech role include: 

  1. Conducts a systematic, conscientious, and thorough microscopic examination of cytologic samples, consisting of but not limited to "Pap" tests, sputa, bronchoscopy samples, urine and bladder washings, spinal fluids, GI samples, fluids from body cavities, and fine needle aspiration biopsies; indicates representative areas with ink dots, evaluates samples after gathering and comparing clinical data with the microscopic picture to make a cogent cytomorphologic interpretation. 
  2. Finalizes reports on gynecologic cases interpreted as negative and lacking reactive/reparative changes. Such cases require no further review unless selected for quality control. 
  3. As needed, assumes cytopreparatory responsibilities and attends fine needle aspiration biopsy procedures for slide preparation and triaging of samples for ancillary testing. 
  4. Responsible for accurate filing of slides. 
  5. Maintains established department policies, procedures and objectives. 
  6. Follows all Joint Commission requirements and National Patient Safety Goals. 
  7. Completes annual mandatory requirements on a scheduled and timely basis (competency assessments, Healthstream quizzes, vaccinations, and declinations. 
  8. Will also work with non-GYN specimens (urines). 
  9. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as directed.

Job Requirements 

Successful candidates for the Cytotech: 

·      Bachelor’s Degree  

·      ASCP certification (Or eligible new graduate)
