Job Description  

    

Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Supervisor – Full Time – Permanent –  

Closing Date: 5/6/2024 11:59 PM Pacific – to be extended 

  

Location: Pierce County – Lakewood, WA 

 

Overview:  

 

In this important role, you will participate as the laboratory representative, assisting with hospital staff, department meetings, and committees, and be available to providers for consultation. To be successful in this role, your focus will be on performing all functions and updating necessary compliance components to maintain initiatives pertinent to College of American Pathologists (CAP), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS), and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) of 1988.

Job Responsibilities Include:   

 

  • Directly hire, support, and supervise laboratory staff including Clinical/Medical Technologists and Laboratory Technicians who perform complex patient testing in the areas of Phlebotomy, Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Immunochemistry, Serology and Urinalysis 
  • Maintain quality control and quality management programs 
  • Communicate knowledgeably with medical providers, nurses, and administrators, regarding laboratory and patient issues. 
  • Perform all inspections and responses to maintain CAP/CMS Accreditation 
  • Manage supplies and equipment to keep laboratory operational 

  

Requirements:   

 

  • ASCP certification or equivalent 
  • Master's degree in medical technology or equivalent applicable laboratory field. 
  • 4 years of clinical, chemical, public health, or related lab experience as a Lab Technician; 2 of these years in a lead capacity. 
  • Two additional years of lead experience may substitute for the master's degree.   

 

Education - Master's degree in medical technology or equivalent applicable laboratory field.  

Experience -  4 years of clinical, chemical, public health, or related lab experience as a Lab Technician; 2 of these years in a lead capacity. 

* If you have either of these certifications: 

Certifications - American Society of Clinical Pathologists-Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). Medical Technologist (MT). Equivalent laboratory certification. 

 

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

  • Applicable state and federal regulatory standards, policies, and procedures in a hospital setting  
  • Demonstrate the principles of universal precautions and infection control practices 
  • Diffuse and work with patients in a therapeutic, non-threatening manner 
  • Resolve team conflicts respectfully, recognizing inclusivity 
  • Effective communication with management, peers, patients, and the public 
  • Eligible for valid Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist Certification from the State of 
  • Washington 
  • Licensed as Medical Technician/Technologist with the American Society for Clinical Pathology 
  • or Clinical Laboratory Sciences certification. 

  

*Notes: Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.  State employees are also expecting a 3% COLA raise effective July 1, 2024.
