Phlebotomist (Healthcare Sciences) 

Job Responsibilities 

The Phlebotomist performs venipuncture and capillary puncture on a range of patients. In addition, this position will conduct specimen processing/accessioning, data entry of patient demographic, and CLIA Waive/Point of Care low complexity testing. 

Position Title: Phlebotomist  

Schedule: Day Shift Monday-Friday  

Start Date: August 7th, 2023 (3, 6, 9. and 12-month options for contract renewal) 

Other Jobs Duties & Skills Needed: 

  • Blood Collection: from adult patients using vacutainer, syringe and butterfly techniques; capillary puncture using heel and fingerstick techniques. 
  • May provide in house lab services: UA dips, HA1C, Blood Glucose, Coag levels, Pregnancy, Covid, CBC Machine, etc. 
  • Identifies and labels specimens appropriately. 
  • Enters accessioned data into the computer. 
  • Prepares specimens for send out testing. 
  • Inventories supplies and prepares phlebotomy stations to effectively collect blood. 
  • Maintains patient confidentiality. 
  • Performs related work as required. 
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform blood, urine and stool collection. 
  • Knowledge of container and minimum volume requirements for specimen collection. .  
  • Skill in labeling and dispersing specimens to appropriate stations.   
  • Skill in interacting with patients representing a broad physical and socioeconomic spectrum.   
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, laboratory staff and medical staff. 
  • Assemble equipment such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for specified tests or procedures  
  • Verify or record identity of patient and donor

Job Requirements 

Successful candidates for the Phlebotomist include: 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent  
  • One year of phlebotomy experience 
  • Phlebotomy Certification Preferred but not required
