Job Description  

Title: Histotech  

Shift: Shift starts around at 5am 

Location: Tyler, TX 

Length of Assignment: 6-8 week contract 

Job responsibilities  

As a Temporary Histotechnologist, you will perform daily, routine, and specialized histology techniques and procedures. Additional responsibilities of the Histotechnologist include: 

• Preparing histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists 
• Staining tissue specimens with dyes or other chemicals to make cell details visible under microscopes 
• Cutting sections of tissues for microscopic examination using microtomes 
• Mounting tissue specimens on glass slides 
• Typing gross dictation if needed 
• Special Stains 
• Maintenance of laboratory equipment

Job Requirements 

Successful candidates for the Temporary Histotechnologist will have certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) preferably.  

Additional requirements of the Temporary Histotechnologist role include: 

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology or related Life Sciences/Health Sciences degree preferred but not required  
• 1-3 Years of experience working as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician  
• Experience in embedding tissue, microtomy, H&E staining, labeling slides, filing slides, accessioning and grossing tissue 
• Must be a team player and be able to work in a fast paced/busy environment  
• Must be well-versed in computers and a quick learner  
• ASCP Certification preferred but not required
