Job Description

 

JOB TITLE: VP, Supply Chain

 

SUMMARY: The VP of Supply Chain will lead a team of professionals responsible for the development and execution of a lean supply chain that produces high order fulfillment rates, timely delivery, targeted inventory turns and delivers outstanding quality results. The right individual will be responsible for the source selection, creation of major sub contracts and procurement during the development and production phases. They will oversee supplier delivery and quality performance requirements in the contract and/or business execution plan. They will lead and manage the day to day activities associated with establishing and administering major procurements with suppliers while directing all negotiations of major procurements, with third party suppliers and vendors.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee demand planning strategy and execution for a supply chain of $25MM to $100MM; facilitate sales and operational planning (S&OP) process and lead monthly cross-functional meetings

 

Establish or maintain purchasing agreements, contract pricing & delivery negotiations, manage VMI programs, expediting and procurement functions for 20 strategic vendors and up to 100 total

 

Build strong relationships with suppliers, procurement leaders, supply managers and cross functional departments

 

Be at the forefront for the customer in understanding market trends and material availability

 

Lead negotiations for commodity contracts to meet customer requirements and to achieve supply objectives

 

Negotiate and maintain Volume Purchase Discounts for top 10 largest vendors between 5-10%

 

Negotiate and maintain purchase/cash discounts for 95% of vendors targeting discounts between 3-5%

 

Lead process improvement initiatives throughout the supply chain process

 

Develop tools for production planning and volume studies, and participate in process improvement efforts including 6 Sigma, LEAN and other risk mitigation and efficiency efforts

 

Drive supplier accountability for improving their performance based on results of the supply metrics tracked

 

Introduce best in class S&OP practices including cross-business stakeholder engagement and improving the utilization of demand forecasting & planning and MRP tools

 

Increase inventory turns by 10%

 

 

Act as the team’s strategic AND tactical counterpart in both demand and supply planning from discrete scheduling to long-range capacity planning

 

Own all team metrics and reporting; objectively measure performance, demonstrate best in class service and inventory management

 

Partner with the inventory team to manage finished goods inventory with a goal of reducing days of coverage and obsolescence risk and reduce excess inventory holdings by 5%

 

Optimize third party Warehousing & Distribution arrangements

Build team and develop existing talent by providing opportunities for learning and growth for a 5 – 10 person team

 

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

§ 15+ years of end to end supply chain experience; with at least 10 years in a managerial capacity

§ Deep knowledge of manufacturing operations

§ Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or relevant discipline required

§ MBA preferred

§ Strong experience of working in an ERP environment

§ Experience implementing or driving significant enhancements to Demand Planning and MRP systems

§ Prior experience implementing and upgrading the S&OP process

§ Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel)

§ APICS or CPIM certification

§ Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to effectively draw insights and deliver in a      

     concise manner to the business

§ Decisive visionary with the objective of balancing tactical and strategic issues

§ Understands and has hands-on experience with lean manufacturing principals

§ Demonstrated ability to build and develop teams

§ Proven ability to influence across the business and drive change

 

Personnel Management: Coach and develop direct reports for achieving objectives and personal development. Ability to motivate team to achieve peak performance and to effectively work with other departments to help them achieve their goals. Facilitate and encourage all aspects of a continuous improvement process as we transition through all aspects of a Lean manufacturing environment. Facilitate training in APICS certifications as required.

Inventory Management: Maximize our organizations entire inventory turnover and customer order fulfillment process to meet customer deadlines and minimize inventory exposure. Institute a multitude of supplier management programs and techniques and establish good cycle count practices, maintain inventory accuracy, minimize excess & obsolescence material, reduce costs, and manage all material customer managed inventory. Insure timely material release to production which minimizes shortages and maximizes on time delivery.

 

 

ERP Management: Insure proper effectiveness of our Infor ERP system through the maintenance of MRP which will reduce buyer transactions and maximize effectiveness within the entire organization and supplier base. Direct IT as required on producing various reports as needed and recommend proper scheduling parameters to maximize effectiveness of the entire organization resulting in increased customer satisfaction.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field of equivalent experience and training. 10-15 years’ experience in procurement and global supply chain management. Proficient in use of ERP software and computer applications. Overseas procurement experience. Decisive visionary with objective of balancing tactical and strategic issues. Understands and has hands on experience with lean manufacturing principles. Demonstrated capability in organizing and managing projects. Cross company experience in both OEM and EMS environment will be helpful. Excellent communication skills
