For almost a quarter of a century ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences (Institut de Ciències Fotòniques / Instituto de Ciencias Fotónicas) has been conducting high impact research where photonics plays a decisive role - and is also seeking a very special person: someone to curate and grow the ICFO community. Could you be that person?

The ICFO Communities Coordinator is a role that connects to three main communities within the organization: the Alumni Network, the Institute’s Social Media Community and the Internal Community. These three communities are diverse but combine a passion for people, networking around high impact science, and connecting research with the world.

The needs of each of these communities are different. Similarly, the Institute’s goals for each one of them are also distinct. Hence, the role demands a wide variety of skills.


 

What skills do I need?

 

  • Communication - clear and effective yet diplomatic
  • Organization - to always be on top of the workload
  • Prioritization and time management - you'll often be faced with conflicting demands
  • Messaging - awareness of how the values of the institute can best be represented whether on social media, for alumni or internally
  • Social media and basic database and Wordpress knowledge - these will be key tools in your day-to-day tasks
  • Attention to detail - precision and accuracy are just as important as the message itself
  • Flexibility - events may run late, schedules may change, the unexpected may happen so a degree of flexibility is essential
  • Values aligned with diversity, equality and inclusion to promote the fair treatment and full participation of all people in the community

 

Responsibilities:

 

1. Alumni community:

Develop and execute a detailed action plan for the Alumni program including services, assessment mechanisms, events, alumni website/platform maintenance, and mechanisms for engagement and communication.

Cultivation of long-term relationships with alumni ensuring their engagement by keeping them updated through mailing (Zoho , Mailchimp, Active campaign, etc.), developing and maintaining the Alumni database and platform and extracting information from this data. Will also need to organize events e.g. the yearly Beyond ICFO event showcasing career paths of former students.

 

2. Social Media Community:

Cultivation of a strong social media presence, engaging with users, implementing campaigns to increase followers and engagement, and creating content reflective of the culture and activities of the institute. Familiarity with Hootsuite, Buffer, Metricool, etc. would be an advantage. Analytics reporting of social media data.

 

3. Internal Communications Community:

Engagement with members of the internal community through all possible channels to promote institutional interests and events, including preparation and mailing of a weekly bulletin, quarterly newsletter and organize activities to strengthen community bonds ( e.g. language exchange evenings )

 

 

Requirements:

 

  • 2+ years’ experience in a communication-related role, ideally within a research ambiance
  • University degree in a related field
  • C1 level or better English, Catalan and Spanish ( yes, all three )
  • Be a citizen of the European Union OR already have permission to live and work there
