The basics

 

- you'll need to organize, carry out, be both absolutely proactive and also rapidly reactive about:

 

  • Keeping up with the cutting edge of plant pathology.
  • Conducting research on pathogen detection in seeds, establishing laboratory methods for diagnosis and detection.
  • Coordinating with international groups to unify methodological protocols of said diagnosis and detection methods.
  • Leading research grant writing and co-author research papers
  • Building relationships with stakeholders in commercial, academic and public bodies for the purposes of knowledge transfer and navigation of regulatory frameworks, nationally and internationally .
  • Travelling to attend conferences and meetings in Spain and beyond.

Your diary will change by the hour- so on a scale of 1 to 10, your adaptability and flexibility need to be 12.

 

Your communication must be crystal clear, in Spanish and English. Speak French too? Great! - Because you'll need to employ this clarity of communication in a variety of contexts: educative, scientific, social and political. You'll know how to be persuasive as well as supportive, inspiring as well as incisive.

 

This is a lead role but teamwork is vital so you must be a champion-level team player as well as a leader that inspires, organizes and prioritizes, who can also collaborate and delegate all the while under an intense workload.

 

Knowledge of next-generation sequence (NGS) technologies, biostatistics and microbiology is extremely desirable for this role as is the ability to travel nationally and internationally.


You must have demonstrated experience to PhD level in the fields of plant pathology/ seed phytopathology and classic microbiology.


You must be acquainted with pathogen detection method development and validation, and an interest in technology transfer, agriculture innovation, plant breeding and food security would be beneficial.
