EDGE/Port of Memphis is searching for a Crew Person to join their team. The Crew Person works with Crew Chief and others to clean and keep in an orderly condition the properties under the jurisdiction and control of the Memphis & Shelby County Port Commission.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Drives trucks and/or other vehicles to and from work sites and operates various equipment, tractors, mowers, outdoor power equipment, etc.
  • Performs general ground maintenance, cuts grass, and removes litter from streets and levee.
  • Adjusts repairs and/or replaces parts and mechanisms of automotive vehicles and mowing equipment by performing such tasks as replacing carburetors, distributors, generators, starters, motors, transmissions and related parts. Also checks all equipment to ensure that routine maintenance has been performed.
  • Performs general building maintenance and levee maintenance, and other related duties as assigned.


NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Clean and Wash Port Commission Equipment and Vehicles.
  • Clean and maintain Port Commission shop facility.
  • May be required to deliver or pick-up Port Commission personnel, vehicles or Equipment.
  • May be required to work overtime during emergency events which may include weekends.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIRMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED and 2 years’ experience operating and maintaining tractors and grass cutting equipment required. The possession of a valid Class “D” Driver’s license is preferred.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • History of ethical and honest behavior, demonstrating a commitment to integrity, respect and teamwork in professional and other activities.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to use and care mechanic’s tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment and vehicle problems.
  • Ability to maintain and repair engines, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, hydraulics, pumps and other equipment.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of engines, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, hydraulics, pumps and other equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires the ability to lift approx. 50 lbs. to include garbage cans, tree limbs, furniture, and other heavy objects. The position requires recurring walking, lifting, bending, stooping, and reaching. The position requires extended periods of visual concentration on tasks such as mowing and trimming. 


 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The majority of work is performed outdoors with the related odors, dust, allergens, insects changing weather conditions and temperatures. The work environment may include prolonged exposure to noises and vibrations caused by machinery and equipment.

PAY

The Crew Person hourly rate is $20.50 per hour
