Introduction:

Under the supervision of the Accounting Director and in close collaboration with the Human Resources department, this position is responsible for processing both weekly and bi-weekly payrolls utilizing a 3rd party payroll processor for multiple locations. The primary responsibilities include handling a large volume of highly sensitive payroll information, providing payroll services, support, and education to all employees, and managing all payroll-related accounting duties.


·        This includes the necessary knowledge and experience for locations with a Union.

·        General Office Location: Memphis TN

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage all aspects of weekly and bi-weekly payroll, processing payroll for over 900 exempt and non-exempt employees.
  2. Act as the primary liaison with the 3rd party payroll processor and employees for payroll communication, updates, issues, and questions.
  3. Process off-cycle and manual checks for terminations, resignations, and voids in accordance with pay laws.
  4. Handle various payroll adjustments, including garnishments, PTO, vacation and sick pay, and bonuses.
  5. Ensure accurate local, state, and Federal tax withholdings for employees, setting up or closing local/state tax accounts as needed for multiple states.
  6. Assist the accounting team with reconciling payroll accounts and ensuring integrity in file transfers from the payroll system to the general ledger.
  7. Develop procedures for payroll processing, document the procedures, and establish internal controls to ensure compliance.
  8. Support all internal and external audits related to payroll.
  9. Review and process all requests for verification for employment.
  10. Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  11. Interact closely with the Human Resources team to complete necessary steps required for payroll processing.
  12. Collaborate closely with onsite teams and participate in onsite meetings to drive departmental objectives.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BS in Accounting/Finance or related field

Experience:

  • 5+ years of high-volume payroll experience for multiple states required
  • Proficient level of Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and knowledge of large payroll processing systems, and experience with HRIS system
  • FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred
